Alien - deleted scene

In my humble opinion, the director's cut really isn't that great and even the DVD (at least the original one) had a preface by Ridley Scott that it isn't his preferred cut and he didn't really want it called the director's cut.
Basically, they took all of the usable deleted footage from the original Alien box set and put it back into the film, but kept the film roughly the same length by taking out little bits and pieces here and there. It ends up screwing up the pace and original editing of the film. Probably nothing too noticeable to anyone who isn't a huge fan of the original, but it really changes the overall feel of the film, which had a carefully built build-up and flow. If they had JUST added this scene in where it was supposed to go and nothing else it might have been interesting, but I think they tampered with it too much just to get a quick cinematic re-release out of it. |
