It's been awhile since I've seen anything the Quays have done. Incredible.

Jello Biafra on Portlandia
04/27/14, 22:02

I love how any Portlandia post pretty much anywhere results in some lengthy essay about how people are supposed to feel about the show and who the right audience is and whether or not you need to be from Portland to get it, etc etc.

The responses are pretty much the most Portlandia-esque meta thing humanly possible.

David DeCoteau's other film A Magic Puppy is equally amazing, and was made using the same locations and a few of the same actors.

I haven't seen this movie in years upon years, but damn is it a brilliant film.
Sarah Palin: Waterboarding is how we'd baptize terrorists
04/27/14, 17:29

And suicide bombings that kill thousands of people is then how they baptize us.

Kind of an ugly cycle that most smart people figured out doesn't work a long, long time ago.

Not that I've noticed. The video game crash of 1982 and its associations with E.T. is because basically the bubble of video games that cost insane amounts of money to produce on the expectation that they would sell so well as to double or triple the investment popped rather insanely. This really wasn't a problem until this particular generation which is seeing this problem surface in a much more pronounced way than ever before (see: all the studio closings or "restructurings" in the last few years). Even the last Call of Duty game, despite making more money than the GDP of a small first-world country, did not meet its expected sales goals which is why the plans to release two CoD games in 2014 has now changed to just one.

The triple A game bubble is going to burst just like 1982, only in this case it won't take the whole industry down with it.

If this guy wanted a years-long career as an dumb internet attention whore, he certainly got it. As a successful game developer, not so much.
Bob's Burgers - Equestranauts

As someone who's watched every episode up to this one, I can honestly say you can watch them in pretty much any order and it wouldn't matter. This show doesn't do that "story arc continuity" bullshit. Occasionally an character is introduced who shows up later and you might not know who they are, but other than that there's nothing you would spoil by watching the episodes in any order.
Renfield - Bram Stoker's Dracula
04/24/14, 14:15

It worked well as an adaptation of the book until Coppola foolishly decided to turn the story into some kind of shit analogy for AIDS or whatever and ruined the entire creepiness of the Dracula character by making him a romance novel character instead of a horrible elderly man who uses his dark powers to make women think he's wonderful, which is far more disturbing. But, Hollywood...

ANCIENT ALIEN MYSTERY OF THE CARPATHIAN SPHINX
04/23/14, 09:10

Oh my...Robert Schoch has fallen way off the deep end here. I actually read one of his books years ago, can't remember the title, but it posited the idea that ancient sea-faring civilizations had much more contact with each other than we ever assumed which would explain the emergence of similar ideas in different cultures around the world within roughly the same time frame. He was once heavily associated with new-age/woo nonsense concerning the Great Sphinx as he said he supported the alternative theory that the Sphinx predates Egyptian culture and was made thousands of years previous. When he finally got permission to do some research, he recanted and said he was wrong and basically backed away from all that, but I guess here he's just gonna dive in head-first and never come up for air.

I've read about this "Carpathian Sphinx" crap and it's interesting that you never, ever see any photographs of this thing from any other angle in these documentaries or books because if you did, you'd see it looks like a rock instead of the "face" that it only resembles when pareidolia kicks in.

Like MDE and Sam Hyde in general, but I think he's really riding the professional troll thing to a point where it will probably seriously hurt his chances at a future career in comedy, at least on the level I think they want to go to. Irony is funny up to a point, but now he's very close to that edge of being a prisoner to it.

The Principle --trailer

For those curious, this is something generally referred to in anti-apologist circles as "Last Thursdayism" which is basically that if all of things creationists are proposing are true, then it would appear that God went through a lot of trouble to make the universe appear old when it actually isn't. The universe could have been created "Last Thursday" and our entire lives and history could have occurred in less than a week by God's divine will or whatever, but it would never seem this way to us.

This is very odd. Not that apologists care, mind you.
