Skyfall (2012) opening credits

I didn't eye-roll, but I'm astonished the amount of sloppy blowjobs this movie got. I mean, seriously....people touting this as THE BEST BOND MOVIE EVAR IN THE HISTORY OF EVAR really are either high or aren't really particularly big fans of the series.
It's a good movie and a good Bond entry, but it has a few serious problems that I cannot believe reviewers let slide probably the biggest of which is how the villain is not really in the movie much and his motivations are really poorly written.

In general, Bond villains usually have a scheme first, then worry about Bond second. In traditional Bond formula, by the third act, the villain is usually in a position of security and authority and Bond has to bring the fight to THEM, rather than the villain bringing the fight to Bond. Now, I'm not saying the writers should never play around with the classic Bond formula, but Bardem's villain has really poor motivations. He wants to get revenge on M and MI6, but when he has the clear upper hand to basically lay-waste to MI6, he instead clumsily uses his resources just to go and physically kill her? I dunno...I think it had a really weak storyline and a wasted villain. I also think the writers are really beating a dead horse with this whole "oh noes, the Bond girl dies yet again showing how Bond must endure the guilt of never being able to save them" thing which was established in Casino Royale. We get it. Move on, please.

Saying Far Cry 3 is "almost" like Call of Duty is like saying that Super Mario Bros. is almost like Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

Charles Band finds a way to get people to pay $50 for new VHS tapes

@zircon I know you're joking, but to clarify what I meant, I am aware that vinyl has never been out of production and that it is still a viable medium (I'm a techno fan, so you pretty much have to get into vinyl at some point if you want certain tracks). I'm talking about how it's coming back into major corporate stores that haven't sold vinyl in-house in something like 20-30 years. Places like Sam Goody etc. (although I know that's a bad example since Sam Goody's are shutting down all over the place). I've even heard some Wal Marts are getting in on the "con people into wrongly thinking vinyl is a superior medium,"

So a Dreamworks movie, basically.

I'm not sure why any respectable filmmaker would do this to his own movies. I can totally see releasing an old movie in great, old-fashioned packaging (which would be cool), yet keeping the medium itself as good as possible (DVD/Blu Ray), but actually selling VHS is retarded. However, it would be cool if some older horror films had an alternate version where the print is all destroyed like a genuine VHS.
But, given the fact that vinyl is actually making its way back into stores, I'm sure VHS will be making a similar comeback for equally invalid reasons of some bullshit nostalgia and claims about it's "superiority" judging from the gullibility of people when it comes to technology.
In 20 years we'll be reading about how 8-tracks are actually technically superior to digital because on some shitty Doors track you can hear a tiny audio artifact that's since been corrected...err..I mean ARTISTICALLY DESTROYED.

It was one of those weird late 80s/early 90s shows where it tried to combine serious drama with some really outlandish shit. It wasn't a terrible show, but it was really a product of its time. This was pretty much the jump the shark moment, though.

This film is surprisingly watchable, but only in a sort of "so bad it's good" sort of way. It's also on Netflix streaming, so enjoy!

I love the nervous laughter tick thing where it's like there's this tiny part of his brain that knows he's full of shit so it's like overriding his bodily functions for a split-second to sort of say "yeah, I know", but then is quickly overridden by the more prevalent mushy parts of his brain.

Huh..I actually saw this the other day at my job while setting up the new releases (I work in books). Interestingly, it wasn't a suggested new release (something we HAVE to display) I just put it up since it was new. The cover and such looked fairly innocuous, though I suspected it probably was filled with a lot of apocalyptic nonsense, and now I know for sure! So, off it goes next Tuesday! Actually, off it goes next time I am at work!
