Wisconsin Citizens Get Arrested for Holding Signs
09/18/12, 17:56 ez: of COURSE he needed to pass the 2012 NDAA -- the NDAA is what funds the military. There's an NDAA every year, and until 2011 every other NDAA was a dull matter of appropriations. The 2012 NDAA was different; blame douchey Republicans for adding the "indefinite detainment" section to an otherwise vital and unobjectionable bill, in their neverending quest to fuck up whatever they can get their hands on.
Now, as for efforts to overturn the "indefinite detainment" part, the Obama administration has fought some of those efforts, and yeah, Obama deserves all the scorn you like for that. But passing the NDAA itself in the first place was the responsible move; the alternative would have resulted in chaos in the military, and no good comes of that. |

Frontline; Money, Power and Wall Street
09/15/12, 21:07 Even if you hold that Obama is an outright tool of the bankers, he's no worse than Romney on that front, but still far far better on a host of other issues. |

Green Wing - Homo Nipples
09/15/12, 12:53 How could there ever be a British "Breaking Bad"? Limey cocksuckers have universal health care. Hell, I bet Walt Jr would get a robot body.
Still, you're right, that guy is plenty Walter Whitey. |

Breaking Bad - Hardware Store
09/13/12, 03:53 I love how little Walter White has to change to shift from genial chemistry teacher to motherfucking Heisenberg. |

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Stupidest Moment
09/12/12, 10:19 I don't know, I thought Kai Opaka was created to be destroyed: she lent Sisko the credibility he needed to be tolerated at all, and once he was in the door, they needed to get rid of her to force Sisko to have to weather the shit himself.
Really, the entire "rebuild Bajor" arc had to play itself out: if they just maintained the status quo where Bajor never got any better, it would mean that the Federation's mission there was a failure. About halfway through the second season it was starting to feel that way, so I'm glad Bajor got its shit together before the series even hit its halfway point.
There was only one episode with space Palestinians, the Skrreea. These folks:

Man feels bad for giving cat painful medicine, builds cardboard palace for cat
09/12/12, 08:59 Don't think I haven't thought about building something like this -- cheap plastic storage bins with holes cut in them, with cat-sized hamster tubing. Maybe stack one or two of them for a high-rise effect.
But of course they'd prefer to sit in the laundry basket. |

Breaking Bad - Say My Name Intro
09/11/12, 21:15 Part of what drives Walt is resentment over how he was bought out from Grey Matter, just before Elliot and Gretchen were able to turn it into a success. So Walt has been motivated to build an empire himself, now that he has the chance, and he's not about to let anyone take it from him.
Only thing is, Walt tends to destroy more than he builds; pretty much everyone and everything he touches falls apart. So while Walt is demonstrating he has the power to take on emperors, he couldn't be one himself. And if Grey Matter happened to hit it big shortly after Walt left, I suspect it's BECAUSE Walt left.
It should be noted, by the way, that Hank could probably let the matter drop and nobody anywhere would be the wiser. Walt's killed off pretty much everyone who might finger him, the drug sales are currently happening in the Czech Republic, the Heisenberg case is nothing but dead leads at this point, and Hank is literally the only drug agent sitting in the right spot to find that one last clue. So now he's got some decisions to make. |

5 guns every American should own
09/11/12, 09:16 Crackersmack, I'm a liberal and I understand what it's like to enjoy shooting things. In my case, though, my weapon of choice is a bow, though (really surprising spoiler) I am absolute ass at it. Even so, I understand the appeal of learning a skill that requires concentration and control; and when I say I shoot "things" I am talking about bales of hay or other strictly non-living targets.
So I am halfway on board with these guys; I can understand why a person would enjoy becoming a marksman. Where I am NOT on board with them is that the appeal to them seems to be directing firepower at other humans, or at least having the ability to do so if the occasion arises.
I'm fine with hunting more or less: I know a guy who bow hunts to help put food on the table. I get that. As CJH says, the problem is fetishizing weapons and the power they have over other people. |

Deadwood - Cinnamon
09/11/12, 09:00 As to the subtitles, I can only infer that they expected their audience to have a reasonably good command of English -- seeing as English is the lingua franca these days, even in France -- but they thought the dialogue might be a bit difficult to understand (sort of like "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo") and some of the vocabulary out of the ordinary. |

Deadwood - Cinnamon
09/11/12, 08:56 This was in season three, episode seven, entitled "Unauthorized Cinnamon". |

Deadwood - Cinnamon
09/11/12, 08:55 In case you were wondering, there is no smoldering grudge between Jewel and Dan Dority, where they're actually mad about something else and arguing about cinnamon as a proxy ... this is genuinely about cinnamon and the authorization thereof. |

Gurkha mercenaries demonstrate their deadly fighting style
09/09/12, 17:12 That's what made the Gurkhas so terrifying: they would bring their marching band up the rock face and sissy dance, and once the song ended, you were as good as dead. |
