Are gay basketball players greater heroes than condecorate soldiers?

You'd basically have to write an essay to deconstruct this horrible, bigoted and condescending video. Five stars.
Obama throws black students under the bus
05/22/13, 14:08

You could replace black person with poor person and it wouldn't change things at all save for the comments about slavery and racism. It's basically the same argument we hear all the time: people aren't successful, committing crimes and are in prison because they're lazy and don't work hard enough and blame everyone else for it.

The final message is his justification for saying what he did: there are poor people in Africa. And nobody actually cares about anything terrible that has happened to you because it couldn't possibly be as bad as being poor in Brazil. Oh, and the nice little neo-liberal global workforce comment; said poor people from other countries will always be willing to work for less so if you don't out perform them in all areas you are clearly worthless.

What a leader.

If prostitution were legal in the era this was made, this is what brothel advertizements would have looked like probably.
Cops vs. Rainbow Family

Your sophisticated assessment of their backgrounds and character (well, they were dickish) is nice, but you really don't know.

We do know however that they were sleeping in (or on top of) their vehicle in a place where truckers are essentially doing the same thing, and that they are apparently too poor to afford a hotel room.

So who cares? I don't, and neither should the police unless they've been there for a couple of days, or if the property owner wanted them to leave. If the property owner wanted them to leave, I think he's a dick unless they've been there for over a day. From what I heard, they seemed to be passing though. I'd be cranky if I were coming back from some giant hippy gathering too. Keep in mind these kids were cooperating, just being jerks.

You, however, sound pretty fucking whiny.

This is pretty much how homeless people get treated everywhere. These people are the least of our problems.
Stossel: Why Hollywood Was Against the 'Atlas Shrugged' Film

Jesus guys, we get it, big government = Stalinism, greed is good, capitalism good, you should be able to do what ever you want with your property, taxes bad, and freedom or something. Enjoy your brainwashing America.
Agenda 21 by Glenn Beck [Full Trailer]
04/21/13, 16:43

From one of the three star reviews on amazon:

"In the Afterword (the "non-fictional" part), Mr. Beck insists that the Earth and it's resources are at our disposal for economic development and preservation of those resources is unnecessary and hinders global prosperity. He states that supporting any form of protecting land for public use or preserving "scenic vistas" is contrary to economic growth, which is true, I guess it just depends where your value sets lie. He also makes it clear that extreme concentrations of wealth should be preserved and protected. The book essentially reiterates the ideals of greed and consumption over and over. Mr. Beck goes on to complain that those that lobby for preservation and protection of resources spread propaganda."

I haven't actually read the afterwards but I probably will now, just to marvel at the insanity.

Is it basically just more "one world government" stuff?
WTF Boston
04/19/13, 12:07

Articles are already being churned out about Chechnya, Russia, etc... with fantastic titles like "Chechnya and the Boston bombing: link, if established, would be unprecedented" and "Chechens' Violent History Includes 'Black Widows,' Attacks on School, Theater...". Now we're supposed to be afraid of another entire region and ethnic group. This shit is getting old.
The Brave Little Toaster (whole thing)

As much as this movie did terrify me, I still appreciate it.

REMEMBER 1997

I remember way too much of it, and apparently it was one of the years I watched the most TV/movies. Talk about a bipolar year for media.
Naturalized Citizen Condemns Gun Control
04/03/13, 13:43

Not very compelling really. Societal decay: he cites nothing. We don't have slavery anymore and we had the civil right movement just to name a couple, both of which kind of defeat his point about our gun-laden history too - my point being we can change on seemingly ingrained behavior/policy. Now our social safety nets? Yeah, they're disappearing. Cena mentioned the D.C. problem, which reminds me of Mexico and the United States; it's easy to get guns when you know your neighbor has them. He might have a point about the LA riots, but I don't know enough about them. The point about Tiananmen square is laughable - they would have been shot and killed by the military probably, and perhaps less would have been achieved, if anything had at all, because they'd be dead and unable to continue being pro-democracy.

US vs Miller is on wiki and the decision of the supreme court justices is there. Read their decision and make up your own mind really, because there's still debate on whether or not is supports or detracts people owning guns. Look at what Bort wrote too.

The quote he ends with doesn't really bear sound reasoning. The people in Germany supported their reich and if they had guns the atrocities may have been worse via vigilantes. The surrounding nations did have guns, and armies, no one saw it coming and that was what happened. It was called "Blitzkrieg" for a reason. But of course, sometimes the vaguest of pronunciations that tacitly support an ideological position are best - for there is so much to deny and so little to defend, if anything at all.
Beck: Bachmann Ethics Investigation Is A Muslim Brotherhood Plot

They're not only black but their AFRICAN blacks - the blackest of all - AND MUSLIMS. We're basically fucked, and white people will be genocideded under sharia-law.
Beck: Bachmann Ethics Investigation Is A Muslim Brotherhood Plot
04/01/13, 21:52

Glenn Beck and Michelle Bachmann are both 5 star crazy but... I don't know anything about what Beck was talking about. He's making it seem like Bachmann is under investigation because she asked why Somali people are - and I'm also inferring this from what Beck is saying - placed in her district by the government. Are they refugees? And he's also implying that the US is being infested (taken over, whatever, there's a lot of inference and implication in everything he says) by Islam because of Somalis coming to our country, what the hell?
Game of F@*%s

Really not that much when compared to most series like this, I could be wrong, but that's the impression I get. And most of the bastards and whores they're using literally - still derogatory in most cases though.
CBS News: 'The Cult of Rage' (1988) (1 of 3)
03/20/13, 14:50

Reminds me of Twelve Monkeys actually. What with the signs and symbols being everywhere and receiving attention (though in the movie not many people paid attention), yet the meaning actually being rather inconsequential, and the visibility only really being a distraction to other events or questions that are generally ignored.

The passing contempt for the '60's "agitator" was also kinda amusing, along with the cynical attitude towards the entire lower east side, poor people, drug addicts, and misfits; all the while maintaining a shred of arrogant sympathy towards those poor dregs of society and how they're barely able to control their animal nature. Evil.
What is an 'assault rifle'? - You've probably been lied to.
03/19/13, 18:03

Great video and informative, it's important that people know the difference between different types of rifles.

Something that is also worth discussing, however, is the fact that all of these weapons are for killing. They're each designed for death, not fun, not competitions, no, these are not toys. You only need a gun in times of war, if you're law enforcement (although all of them having one is arguable), if you live out in the wilderness and maybe some special circumstances - like you might starve or something. If you're worried about self-defense get pepper spray, a taser, or stun gun. Heck, get a baton. You probably won't kill anyone (save maybe a heart attack), cause any real property damage, and these non-lethal methods are arguably more effective than guns could hope to be.

But if you insist on using them for sport, my opinion is that we should have them locked up in a place where they are accounted for and strictly controlled, preferably on the site where they are to be used. That's another discussion in itself though. Just my two cents.
President Bush Announces Start of Iraq War
03/16/13, 23:55

"No, I can't. But you can't say they're not either." Oh yes I can; it's obvious more people are hating on the USA because of drone strikes. Look at Pakistan: we're not just pissing off extremists there, we're pissing of just about everyone including their military and intelligence community. At the least we're violating their sovereignty - not to mention that of Yemen's.

The most blatant problem with your reasoning is astounding though: you're putting the burden of proof on skeptics of your position that drone strikes are justified and making us safer, which is made all the more comical by the fact that the very reasoning is CLASSIFIED.
President Bush Announces Start of Iraq War
03/16/13, 20:48

I don't think you can honestly say drone strikes are making us safer. It's just making more people more afraid and angry - but they're mostly brown so I guess it's really inconsequential. It's also rather hilarious that the legal justification for drone strikes is classified, so none of us really know the reasons behind it. We get the rhetoric, but, conveniently, not really any empirical analysis. I wonder why.
