An entirely fan-made episode of My Little Pony, starring ORIGINAL CHARACTERS DONUT STEEL
10/22/12, 00:18 Most animators that actually do production work in big companies would do work for pencils if they had to.
It's just what they do not that I understand how they do it. |

An entirely fan-made episode of My Little Pony, starring ORIGINAL CHARACTERS DONUT STEEL
10/21/12, 23:25 I couldn't watch the entire thing, probably because the fan voice acting is just so damn hard to listen to.
But props for quality. It is one thing to draw a nice picture...it really is a another to *animate* it. I imagine the animator(s?) on this are good enough for commercial production work. |

5 year old explains World War 2
10/18/12, 11:15 I still don't understand WWII.
I know the major economies of the world were fighting each other...there was oil...the end of colonialism....somehow this was a good excuse for a holocaust....I don't even know.
I think I would sound a lot like this girl if I really tried to explain it to someone her age. |

Peter Tripp's story- Sleep Deprivation and Top 40 hits
10/13/12, 16:43 Perhaps biology has figured out simulation is useful for optimization.
Still seems odd that you should go crazy or die if you miss a few days. |

Peter Tripp's story- Sleep Deprivation and Top 40 hits
10/13/12, 14:09 We still dont understand precisely why our brains need sleep. It doesn't seem like a super awesome adaptation. |

Step by Step - Bar Fight Scene
10/10/12, 01:25 This guy was the star in some Van Dam franchise sequel like "Blood Sport 3" or "Kickboxer 9"...I remember the cognitive dissonance of seeing him in it. |

Minimal age for marriage in Islam?
10/07/12, 14:33 Indeed, I wonder what the mean age of marriage is, averaged across all of civilization's history? I am guessing it is probably 13 (I know older people from that region who were married at the age of 14).
Here is an example from France I just found (considerably later than Mohammed's time):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabella_of_Valois
It isn't as if the practice of child brides was limited to the Bedouin. |

The Lone Ranger (2013) Trailer
10/05/12, 00:23 I could see a bit of anger coming from people who ask "You mean you really couldn't fill that role with someone that looked a little more Native American?"
I'm sure there will be a few zingers in the script that denigrate the European invaders for the genocide in North America, but they will only be there to assuage the producers and audience of any guilt for being complacent about a rather blatant asymmetry in the popular culture industry.
For some reason people with lots of melanin in their skin can't act as people with little melanin in their skin, but the converse perfectly fine.
One of these days I hope I can hire a group of fabulously talented makeup artists to make a short film set in Victorian England, with lots of top hats, fluffy gowns and parasols. There will be some sort of inconsequential story of unrequited love...and then at the end of the film you hear the director call "cut!" and you can watch everyone break for lunch and peel away the makeup to reveal browny brown skin and doing brown things like speaking some weird language and eating some food with garlic and spices in it.
That Hitler fim from India was a good try, but one would aim to do an order of magnitude better than that.
I hear non-white actors complain about this type of thing all the time, I think it just made more sense to me after watching the trailer. |
