Six stars for David Graeber, -1 because this video is tl; dw.
The thing that's interesting about the book is that Graeber basically surveys tons and tons of different economies that economic theorists have mostly ignored; the conclusion being that economists' assumptions about economic behavior are intrinsically flawed. Here's a pretty good article he wrote that gets more in depth than this video:

If you're depending on other people to protect your bike, you're doing it wrong. A couple of simple ways to beat the thieves:
-Security skewers/bolts on the wheels, saddle, seat-clamp and stem. (You can cut them down to fit). It's sort of a hassle if you go touring and need to do maintenance on the fly though.
-A motor scooter lock. They're basically thick steel cables you can't saw through. Get a long one and wrap it through the frame, spokes, crank and, if you have one, a randonneur. The downside is that they're heavy as shit.
All totaled it runs you about $75, but it's worth it if you commute a lot and pay for themselves if someone tries to steal it. |

No way -- that honor rightfully goes to All Star Superman by Grant Morrison. Trust me on this. Don't get me wrong, Red Son is great, but All Star Superman takes the conventions of the character and makes him someone you can identify with and believe in. He's a metaphor for what we can be, and Morrison very astutely teased that out of Siegel and Shuster's original concept.

How to make an Adam Curtis documentary:
1. Take an idea, preferably one advanced by Cold War-era technocrats or ideologues, and a subsequent historical event.
2. Pretend one caused the other, even if they're only tangentially related.
3. Make sure the narrative meanders around in a non-linear fashion. Make sure the overarching theme is "the problems caused by politics and power."
4. Throw in some old pop music, a score from 60's sci-fi, archival footage from the 50's and then edit the whole mess into a three-hour collage that is trippy as fuck.
5. Cash that check from the BBC. |

Except that this is in Britain where cyclists are encouraged to ride to the front of the lane, ahead of cars. That's why if you look in the foreground of the video, the next intersection has a bicycle symbol at the stop line. That's where the cyclist was standing at the beginning of the video. |

He was stopped at an intersection and had only begun pedaling. It takes a second or two to build up momentum unless you're doing track stands. It's sort of a catch-22 in that situation, if you stop at stop lights, you end up slowing down traffic, but if you ride through it, people flip out like "OMGZ HOW DARE THOSE CYCLISTS DISOBEY TRAFFIC LAWS!!!!"
