Also, fatatty, it's pretty interesting how Pixar has dabbled in some 2D as of late (such as their Ratatouille "Our Friend, The Rat" short) and it still comes across as far better traditional 2D animation than anything Disney's done in the past 10 years.

Lasseter was one of the early pioneers of using computer graphics as a new tool for traditional animation, rather than being a thing unto itself. His formative paper in the early days of SIGGRAPH (which basically showed the basics of 2D animation and a brief history of how they came to be, and then showed how to apply that to 3D) is something that all animators (2D and 3D alike) should still read today, and sadly, most don't.

Unfortunately, the ACM keeps it under lock and key and charges money for reading it, which is a big part of why. Every now and then, illicit copies of it pop up on the web but in the meantime all you can really do is read the abstract at http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=37407 unless you happen to be an ACM member.

B. F. Skinner and Reinforcement: Why You're a Rube for Believing in Free Will
12/10/08, 16:06

Free will is a bit more than simple stimulus/response mechanisms. Abstract problem-solving is a skill which you can't simply train for.

You can train a pigeon to bowl but you can't train a pigeon to figure out how to train a goldfish.

Top Gear: Ford Fiesta
12/10/08, 10:57

"Oh, the Top Gear guys want to film a segment in our mall? That sounds like fun!"

Their budget seems to get more ludicrously large every episode. I have a feeling they've spent way more on this segment than Ford's entire advertising budget for this model.
