That was very clever and completely unlike the impression I had of this movie. I should see it someday.

Late 90s Intel Pentium II commercial

They were underclocked 450s. They normally ran at a 66MHz FSB instead of the 450's 100MHz. Exact same chip between them. And hell yes I did the hell out of that.

I have no idea. It's water-soluable, right? So it probably just stings for a little bit.

Of course there are 256 possible values, but he said that an 8-bit number "goes from 0 to 256." Multiple times, even.

I wonder how many times he accidentally got latex in his eyes or inhaled it or sealed his eyes and/or mouth shut.
Jobs Movie Clip (Steve Jobs Biopic - 2013)

My understanding is that Kutcher really wanted to do this because he's a giant Jobs, Apple, and technology-in-general fanatic who actually doesn't act much anymore except as something to kill time when he's not busy being a venture capitalist.

Slight gripe: an unsigned 8-bit integer has a maximum of 255, not 256.

Also the RTC does keep on counting up seconds even when the power is off, via the RTC battery.

Upgrading your computer to 64-bit has very little to do with fixing this problem though. 32-bit CPUs can do 64-bit math just fine. But a lot of things, like filesystems, databases, etc. have 32-bit timestamps stored in a fixed-size column.

Hopefully most things out there that use a 32-bit time_t are only using it for interval computations, and not absolute storage. Interval computations are good as long as the interval itself is less than 2.1billionish seconds long.

Avoiding the HR Ditz - Dealing with Human Resources

It might be true that the correlation coefficient between HR screening success and on-job performance is 0.1. But it's also my observation that the correlation to people who dislike HR to this extent and people who are insufferable assholes who are difficult to work with is about 0.9.

That out-of-the-blue gaybash (or what would be easily construed as one, anyway) towards the end was a bit uncalled for.
Don't jump on the counter!
01/26/13, 22:36

So, my younger cat Fiona is particularly bad about getting on the dining table and on a tall bookshelf, so I put tinfoil in top of both of them. (My older cat Werner seems to have been properly trained not to jump up on things by his previous owners. I really must ask them someday how they did it.)

So far, Fiona is still jumping on the dining table, but she gets weirded out by it and leaves after 30 seconds or so. She also steps VERY CAREFULLY and doesn't knock anything around like she usually does. When she jumps down she also does it much more carefully than usual.

Anyway, it's not the jumping on the table I mind so much as her knocking stuff off of it, and chewing on things that are on it. If I can at least stop her from doing that, I'll be much happier. I think she's also learned that getting on the table is what summons the laser dot.
