This video is actually more about how they produced the animation (with technical details only of interest to computer graphics folks like me) than about what the animation conveys. Ostensibly some of this video will be used in a later video with a better voiceover that actually explains what's being shown in layman terms and not using things like "a distant hither plane" (i.e. "a cut-away view").
The video is useful, but only the first part of the explanation is, and that's why it loses a star. |

One time I used a sample of my cat's mewing in a song and every time I played the song my cat got really confused and started doing the same sort of thing. I eventually changed the sample to remove some of the formants so it still sounded like a cat to humans but didn't trigger poor Toby's apeshit reaction. |

Right, because it makes more sense that all the mass of the Earth and the water of the oceans comes from nowhere, and that the continents flattened out due to decreasing curvature, and the landmasses actually changed shape to fit together, and and and. Yeah. Of course they all fit together if you squish them around and ignore pretty much every piece of geological evidence. Not to mention issues of how these ancient species actually survived without water while they were galavanting around a solid landmass and so on.
"Note that there is no subduction, no raising and lowering of earth." WELL GEE I GUESS THESE MOUNTAINS MUST BE IN MY IMAGINATION.
