Michele Bachmann Gets Mic Checked by Occupy Charleston, South Carolina

She's delivering a piece of legislation that was bought and paid for by a corporation. This is all in honoring the tradition of Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine, you spineless hypocrite.

God bless these patriots.

The entire Republican Party is in dire straits financially. The fundraising apparatus has been shifted to corporate and oligarchical donors.

American Crossroads has a few dozen donors and they intend to raise $240m this election year. The DCCC has outraised the RCCC by almost 4:1.

They must be shitting in their pants.
Serco: The most powerful company you've never heard of
11/11/11, 11:13

If anything this is a testament to the power of the new trend in infographics in spreading information virally. There's been so many of these it's hard to keep track of, but it has accomplished its goal, to make people aware of Serco and to research it further.

It's a very effective segment. Combining the brands and industrial cornerstones of the company into a giant spider, nice touch.

Mic check!

This will only take a minute | We have a message for Mrs. Bachmann.

You capitalize on dividing Americans | claiming people that disagree with you | are unpatriotic socialists | and you promote discrimination.

This does not help the American People.

You parade as a grassroots candidate | but your campaign is funded | by Americans For Prosperity | a group that takes advantage | of legalized money laundering.

This does not help the American People.

You cater to the One Percent | you oppose paying hardworking Americans | a living wage | and refuse | to promote realistic solutions | to economic problems.

This does not help the American people.

This 501(c)(4) | is funded by the Koch Brothers | One of of many organizations | that engage | In misinformation| and drowns out the voice | of the American people | A disturbing result | of the Citizens United decision.

This does not help the American people.

We demand an end to legitimized corruption | through a constitutional reversal | of the Citizens United decision.

This will help the American people.

Have a pleasant day."

I was waiting for that. Are you insinuating that I'm only interested in women for their bodies outside of their inherent nutrient value?

God, I really envy autistic people in a way. They are completely content in their pleasure, fuck everyone and everything else. "Yes, this is PURE 2D. This is what I can do with parallax."

I'm amazed that kids in Britain were protesting tuitions of $10,000... These kids are angered that a college would ask for a kid to go $120,000+ in debt for a BA in liberal arts.

There was somebody on here who had never seen Monty Python before. I tried to imagine how this was physically possible. The public internet was founded by Monty Python people, the nerdy outcasts who watched PBS at 2am.

Then it dawned on me that PBS has no value now. Nobody really stays up watching a tiny selection of TV stations when you can watch whatever you want online or on digital cable. All these kids growing up online will simply not know get references that the internet people who started all this shit understood reflexively. It makes me feel old.

"The real problem is that they are the first wave of gentrification" Yes sort of. Let me share my experience with neighborhoods I've been expelled from.

The first wave of gentrification are artists desperate to live in cheap places that are close to where they can work. The Bohemian lifestyle, as it were, is gone from the populated center of NYC, so you move somewhere as close as you can on the train line.

After the artists move into violent neighborhoods (Wmsburg in the 80s), the not-rich gays and the artistic stragglers come in and call it "up and coming" amongst themselves. Then the Creative Class moves in. These are people who work in advertising on the creative end, and publishing. They are not necessarily horrible people, they just don't want to live in the de-oxygenated yuppie neighborhoods or the really horrible I Will Mug You and Take Your Ipad and Fuck You neighborhoods.

After these people move in, the hood becomes Glamorous and real estate starts pushing it as the Place To Be. Then the Professionals movie in, desperate for slightly cheaper rent with a concomitant Cultural/Ethnic Reward. With these people come the Upper Echelon Of Gay Culture, who add an accent to neighborhoods that the traditional Jack Smith/John Waters gay populace abhors and ignores (they are displaced as well).

At this point the neighborhood is officially A Hip Place to Be.

This is when Rich Kids who Are Hipsters With Parents In Real Estate start moving in. They are not to be confused with the Artists Who Started All This, but they might dress similarly, and this is where a lot of the confusion is.

Artists dress peculiarly a lot of times. Just because you are a struggling artist you are not a horrible drunk idiot, but since artists sometimes get drunk and become idiots, Rich Kids Who Are Hipsters With Parents In Real Estate want to be like them.

This isn't a unique or localized phenomenon. The tough mob-connected guys who lived there decades ago attracted Professional Middle Class Guys in Unions Who Pretend to Be Wise Guys. These guys were once as reviled as the Hipsters were, but they're mostly gone from that area now.

Whaaat. We're talking about a place that is one of the centers of the fashion and entertainment industry, on top of just normal New York filled with people from all over the place which has its own share of hotness. I have seen people there who are literally emblazoned in my memory, I can actually recall the moment I saw them on the street and feeling my jaw drop. Sure the fashion industry is shallow and you might hate "hipsters" as a subgroup of the world, but there's a lot of uniquely amazingly ugh disgustingly gorgeous people all over that part of New York and Manhattan. That's the truth, Ruth.
Rudy Giuliani to Occupy Wallstreet 'How about you Occupy a job?'
11/09/11, 06:00

Many people in New York respect him because he took away the "ACLU" from the NYPD and allowed them to do their job in reducing crime. It's kind of sad, since violent crime dropped equally across the country, even in places that were not the Rudolph G way.

I know people who are thankful to him for "taking on the mob," and that's a pretty genuine belief. When he was mayor organized criminals lost a lot of sway, but this really has more to do with the FBI, and it was a long time coming, and it was nation-wide.

We now have organized criminals from Central America that make Irish, Italian, African-American and Russian mobsters look like a game of Parcheesi. I had a conversation with a biker from an old Puerto Rican gang from East Wmsburg (long story) that said the MS 13 people are taking over everything...

Nationally violence crime is 50% below what it was in 1990. It's hard to protest these results. A lot of streets are walkable again. Then again, 3,000,000 people are in jail, and that's just fucked up.
