Larry King Interviews Futurist FM-2030
02/02/13, 16:48 He's been wrong a lot and right a lot. I find transhumanism to be a really interesting cultural event in any case. At its best, it is the only intellectual movement that is dealing with the human relationship with new technologies in an informed and challenging way, and at its worst, it is comedically entertaining New Age lunacy.
As poetv, we have dropped the ball in not rounding up the latter. |

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (Full Movie)
02/02/13, 01:24 No matter how many bushes they move in front of Norman Bates' house on the Universal lot, you can't hide it.
I was hoping this was a reference to the Ghost and Mrs. Muir, which is one of MY favorite movies. |

Idea Channel: Are You A Hipster?
02/01/13, 16:37 At this point in time, anybody who calls somebody a "hipster," a term originally used as a passive aggressive insult among the very people who were originally identified as such (by themselves), is really just betraying their own insecurities. The term originated in the 50's to refer to the crowd that followed the jazz scene, it was a inside joke then, and it was an inside joke when it resurfaced in the 90's. I don't know how it make a commodity, but that's America for you. Nobody is allowed to do anything without it being processed into consumer sludge.
That guy with a used shirt is a hipster. He's making his own beer! I've never done anything myself, so that guy is a hipster. He's playing D&D! Hipsters play D&D, but he's also a nerd, which according to this fucking jackass is somehow acceptable now (read Patton Oswalt's brilliant essay on the "tragic" mainstreaming and commodification of nerdiness).
Actually, maybe those young people trying to be unique aren't actually hipsters, maybe you're just boring. |

Rik Mayall as an extremely heterosexual Robin Hood
02/01/13, 02:14 Sometimes the best casts in the world can't save a dialed-in script. Rik Mayall + Atkinson should be pure, legendary comedy gold. It's just sad is all. |

Quiet Orinda
02/01/13, 02:03 I hate wind blowers too. I use these fucking insane things called a rake and a broom. The best thing about them is they don't coat all the plants around me with a layer of gasoline.
I read on the EPA's stats page that lawn care equipment is responsible for 5-9% of air pollution in America, which is disgusting.
That being said, I hate these people. |

Eddie Cantor in 1923 | 2 vaudeville songs
01/31/13, 06:08 People were experimenting with sound on film and sound on disc shortly after the introduction of motion pictures, with working tech in the 19th century. Jazz Singer was the first feature to use Vitaphone to great commercial success & the first with synched dialogue and diegetic sounds, but there had been other features with music and bits of dialog before that. |

Bells from the Deep (Complete film)
01/30/13, 18:40 I think this was the first Herzog film I ever saw... I read in an interview here that he made most of the stuff in the film up. It's typical of his pseudo-documentary form, where he uses the format to tell a mystical story about real life. Love him. |

We the tiny house people
01/26/13, 21:10 Binro, what state or, if you don't mind me asking, city do you live in?
There are many, many programs to help people in your position find homes or get grants to do exactly what you are talking about. You are smart enough to get one; a lot of people can't compose a sentence and don't know anything about grants. I have a bit of experience navigating the labyrinth of community improvement grants and loans... |
