I am loving the Marenghi love at the moment.

Automatic five stars for anything to do with this glorious series.

I watched this six times in a row and I am incapable of understanding what is going on or how this is in any way interesting. Maybe that is contingent upon whether or not you watch the show? I have no idea what this is and it is nowhere near funny enough to stand on its own merit. Gets the extra star because i guess he's in blackface(?)

You probably need context.

Also; he actually is black.

Too much explanation: "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" is the only TV show that tries to be bad and more or less succeeds, because it leavens the poor production values with behind-the-scenes interviews with the Orson Welles wannabe creator and his co-stars. Garth Marenghi (the self-proclaimed "dream weaver" behind the show) gave this role to his publicist, Dean Learner, despite the fact that he has no acting ability. Marenghi claims that it actually works out better that way, because instead of "putting on an act", Dean can only "put on the truth".

This clip is better with a grasp of the show, which is trying to parody shitty 80s horror/thriller TV shows.

Just watch the fucking thing.

It's a funny, short lived show that died at the right time. Of course you need to watch it.

sosage - 2011-11-04
I don't understand it. Quick! Shoot low ratings at it until it dies!

it may be a good show; I usually dislike hipster sketch comedy but the newer funeral clip here is kind of funny. Also, thanks for the explanation. I guess my gripe is that are you giving this particular video stars of general principle because you like the show? I can appreciate good old fashioned chuckery but there is not really anything happening one way or the other here. I mean, thats just stupid.

Here, let me try to elaborate so I sound less like a phillistine; I like Michael Ironside. I like everything the man has done. If I were to submit a 15 second clip from scanners where Michael Ironside is talking to the head doctor guy in the office about an obscure plot point regarding nothing contextually relevant or comprehensible I would be an idiot if I expected people to appreciate that on the man's presence alone. It makes no sense. I'm baffled.

Find "One track lover". It's on POETV somewhere. Don't leave the series until you've seen that scene.

Oh. Fuck it. Here:

I saw this clip after clicking around related from the "buddy" clip earlier. I rewatched this like 10 times laughing at it more each time. Then I hunted down this show, because I've never seen it before.

It's on the same vibe as Tim and Eric, when you think about it. Deliberately low quality that succeeds as deliberately low quality.

Hank, you're dwelling too much on the details. To me this is funny because Dean Learner is aware, at some level, that he has no business in front of a camera, but has probably convinced himself that he's generally doing a pretty good job. His attempt to cover up a mistake (not even the first mistake in this scene), and the less than confident "goodbye" at the end, is the punchline.

It doesn't matter that he's talking about objects flying around E wing.
