Oh, wow, he just flat-out asked it to her face.

baleen - 2011-11-23

He's trying to be cool. I honestly don't think he's racist. He's just a jackass.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2011-11-23

Since when is macroni and cheese a black thing?

TheSupafly - 2011-11-23

According to them it is. Like the only people I ever knew who had it home made regularly as a kid are black.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2011-11-23

Im going to get in touch with negro culture and melt cheese over noodles tonight.

baleen - 2011-11-23

My mom is from England and she made us mac and cheese from scratch all the time because it's in the fucking Fanny Farmer cookbook for christ's sake.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-24

I think they mean Mac and Cheese on major holidays is a black thing. My mom would make good mac and cheese for dinner every now and then, but it was never part of Christmas, Thanksgivings, or Easter dinner.

Old_Zircon - 2011-11-24

I'm as white as it gets and my family always has mac and cheese on Thanksgiving. I can smell it right now. Point being, even though that's almost definitely what they mean, they're still wrong.

kwash - 2011-11-24

Same. Every year at thanksgiving we had awesome home made Mac & Cheese. And we're as white as can be.

blood_visions - 2011-11-26

I live in the south and I had mac and cheese like weekly and remember it at some family stuff. Then again, I am chinese

hammsangwich - 2011-11-28

You can't have mac and cheese for Thanksgiving. At that point you might as well break out the hot dogs and Twinkies.

kingofthenothing - 2011-11-23

Mac and Cheese is an American thing.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-11-23

Uhh...since when?

I've had mac and cheese numerous occasions and at every holiday all my life as have all the thanksgivings I've been to at other people's houses. With the exception of my aunt and uncle (the uncle being black) and my dad (who is a beaner) they were always very, very, very white gatherings.

I always figured it was a fat American thing.

Bort - 2011-11-23

Wait, I don't understand. Macaroni is a kind of pasta, right? So you ... what, you serve a block of cheese in a bed of macaroni? I'm just not getting it.

jyrque - 2011-11-24

It's macaroni pasta in a bowl of melty cheese.

Bort - 2011-11-24

That doesn't make any sense, as soon as the cheese gets down to maybe 110 degrees, it hardens a block again.

Wait, it's a block of cheese with bits of macaroni in it, right? Then you cut it into cubes and serve with toothpicks.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2011-11-24

I dont know how the negros do it, but yeah its a knife and fork exercise. It is also customary to eat it with your body at a 90 degree angle to the table, such that your face can inhale the cheese and noodles.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-11-24

They must be using black magic.

Fezren - 2011-11-24

Traditionally you would start with a bechamel sauce, which is a sauce made from roux (clarified butter and flour) and milk, which is simmered with a whole onion, clove, salt, and a pinch of nutmeg.

Then you would add grated cheese(s) to the bechamel sauce, which allows the cheese to emulsify by bonding the fat in the cheese with the starch in the roux. You now have a mornay sauce.

The mornay sauce is added to cooked macaroni, along with additional grated cheese, and topped with breadcrumbs. After baking in the oven until the top is golden brown and crispy, it is ready to serve.

Robin Kestrel - 2011-11-28

Well, that sounds a hell of a lot better than Kraft.

dr_rock - 2011-11-23

"Truffled lobster mac and cheese" from Prime 112 may be the best food I've ever eaten. It is not a soul food kitchen.

paparatti - 2011-11-23

One of my first observations about America when I moved here was that mac & cheese is a poor, fat, white American thing. I have no idea how Pat Robertson doesn't know this. They are HIS PEOPLE for Christ's sake.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-11-23

Just because he exploits them doesn't mean he knows anything about them.

charmlessman - 2011-11-24

Pat, it's like linguine Alfredo. Only different pasta and different cheese.

Billy the Poet - 2011-11-24

Pat is really an old-school honky, isn't he?

Cena_mark - 2011-11-24

I really hate these Media Matters and Right Wing Watch things. Is Pat Robertson's ignorance of really so sinister?

Quad9Damage - 2011-11-24

To answer your question, it's not his ignorance that is the problem. It's his blatant homophobia, sexism and vicious intolerance of anything remotely forbidden in his ancient religious text. Also, people still follow him and believe his bullshit, so he spreads stupidity amongst those who take him seriously.

And every now and then, he'll say something that's not quite as evil but still really stupid, so they include those clips too for laughs.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-11-24

They really do seem to be grasping for straws the last couple years.

Enjoy - 2011-11-24

THANK YOU RIGHT WING WATCH

FreeOJ - 2011-11-24

It always surprises me how everyone is always so shocked about Pat Robertson's ignorant statements

Cena_mark - 2011-11-24

Well hopefully this'll get you liberals to stop calling Condi and Uncle Tom. She's black and likes Mac and Cheese on major holidays.

Enjoy - 2011-11-24

He asked an honest question and got an honest answer. Just because they didn't wrap their Q&A in layers of political correctness, really angers RIGHT WING WATCH.

baleen - 2011-11-24

It takes more than including mac and cheese with Thanksgiving dinner to convince 98% of black people that you aren't an uncle tom for being a white republican. When people like Alan Keyes, Shelby Steele and Herman Cain, the latter two possessed with laughably Uncly Tommy names, insinuate that black people are too stupid to know what's right for them because they vote Democratic and have been brainwashed by white people and have been bought off with welfare and affirmative action, it's easy to kind of feel that they're, I don't know, "uncle toms."

I'm sort of intrigued that this video clip is being used as evidence that black people as a whole eat macaroni and cheese on the holidays and white people don't. I thought it was a pretty popular side dish in general. I can't remember every single holiday meal I've ever had, but I think TG is a time when families across America whip out the American Pride/comfort food staples.

In a way, this macaroni and cheese video is a microcosm of how race works in this here United States of America of to-day.

Here is a recipe for American macaroni in cheese dated back to the 1820's:

http://southernfood.about.com/od/macaroniandcheeserecipes/r/bl 01011a.htm

takewithfood - 2011-11-24

That's interesting: two black people do the same thing, while I, a white man, do not. I will straight up ask one of them to her face if it's because of her race, and if it is safe to assume that all people who look like her also do this thing.

Bort - 2011-11-24

Five white man stars for takewithfood. You hit the nail square on the head.

Robin Kestrel - 2011-11-24

My favorite headline to come out of this thus far:

And God Said to Pat Robertson, "Do Not Let My Children Have a Slow News Day" - David Weigel (slate.com/blogs/weigel)

kingarthur - 2011-11-24

Mac and cheese is cheap fatty poor people food. I know this, I live in Mississippi.

Adham Nu'man - 2011-11-24

What this this "burger" thing that all the kids keep talking about?

Pat Roertson was just waiting for Andy Rooney to croak in order to replace him.

Quad9Damage - 2011-11-24

I don't understand the deal with this Olive Garden place. Is that a French people thing? Also, the Chinese cook really good American food at their buffets. I think they do a better job with jello and apple pie over there in China than Americans do here!

Pillager - 2011-11-24

They need to have him tested for Alzheimer's...

Ghoul - 2011-11-24

I'm going to give Pat a free pass on this one. My Mom is making Mac and Cheese right this second for Thanksgiving dinner.

I love you mom.

Pirateking86 - 2011-11-24

OMG! Pat Robertson is a racist? Who would have guessed?

Cena_mark - 2011-11-24

OMG! Piratequeen86 doesn't know the definition of Racist. Who would have guessed?

memedumpster - 2011-11-24

Cena, if you really are a troll, don't go down this road. As soon as you come out as a racist (which you pretty much just did) the love affair with you by those who like your antics will end.

Cena_mark - 2011-11-25

memedumpster, I just feel the word "racist" is over and incorrectly used. Its libs who are abusing the word and making it lose its power. Pat Robertson is ignorant, not P.C., stupid. But he's not racist. He is in no way is displaying a hatred for people of other races. How is it you can't see that?

Cena_mark - 2011-11-25

Also are you trying to say that by saying something that isn't racist isn't racist I'm being racist? You're really grasping for straws there.

Cherry Pop Culture - 2011-11-24

I had some great macaroni and cheese made by a friend who is half white/half Filipino :D
