Someone decided somewhere Batman had to be all grim and forlorn and use the adjective God-damned before his name.
@cognitive: It does seem a pity that even the Brave and the Bold cartoon couldn't work in more than a wordless cameo. (I think the only TV villain they used was King Tut.)
