I was but an Altar Boy Caius when this movie came out. I remember the school librarian giving me a Pig In The City bookmark, with a monkey wearing a dress on it. It said "It's a dog-eat-dog world. And there's not enough dog to go around."
I'll be sure to include one with every signed copy of my memoir.
Hurt and alone, now at rest, happy that he tried his best
Though gone and lost, rewarded was he, for his selfless bravery
Called back again, into the fray for this was not his final day
He stands upon his broken form, looking mostly small and worn
"Feeling good, feeling peppy" he says
And again he's off with no delays
Ode to Flealick
I'm not going to watch this, because I don't feel like crying right now, but I remember it well. Gene Siskel named this the best movie of the year, the last year before he died if memory serves.
My grandparents who were probably in their mid 70s/early 80s at the time thought Babe was the greatest movie ever. They hadn't been to a movie in decades and decided to go see this when it came out. I'm not sure they ever saw another movie in the theater.
