That was more enlightening than I was expecting from a man in a stupid hat and another man named Dingledale.

What on Earth does Jacob Appelbaum have on his head? Heh, I don't think I've ever seen Roger Dingledine wearing any other shirt than that Tor tee-shirt.

Personally I'm lazy and just use Tails which can be booted in a virtual machine (as long as you're sure there are no key loggers on your system). http://tails.boum.org/ I always felt guilty using it because I thought to myself, "I'm just using this to browse Amazon when other people need Tor to protect their lives. I'd better find some other way." without realizing I'm actually helping them by generating normal traffic.

So the bad guys are Blue Coat, SmartFilter, Websense. Nokia and Cisco. Too bad it says "Jacob's RECon2011 talk for more details" without giving a URL or something.

I wouldn't blame Cisco for what despotic governments do with DPI any more than I'd blame Tor for the kiddie porn hiding on it.

I thought Tor was just a proxy to anonymize web browsing, how do you hide child pornography ON it? I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong or it can't be done, I'm just curious if this is something about Tor I don't know yet. I could see how you could hide kiddie porn on Freenet though.

you're right, i was thinking of freenet.

Fact*: Corporate firewalls are censorship.

*may not be a fact outside of Slashdot

(still, this is awesome and everyone should watch it)

Timothy Leary was once asked what he thought of G. Gordon Liddy hiding in the shrubbery at Millbrook spying on Tim and his ladies. He smiled and opined that we should encourage surveillence so as to show these people the right way to live.

Every time I start thinking I'm pretty smart, I end up watching things like this. Then again, it's nice to have heroes.

I only watched the first five minutes, but five stars for arbitrarily selecting cancer survivors as a group that might want to use an anonymous network. I guess they get better press than anarchists and pedophiles.
