baleen Godard's post-modernism certainly sucked the meaning out of art. That whole legacy has created the kind of cynicism you're emulating here, but you don't have to travel far to find that there is meaning in Tarkovsky and Bressons and Bergman, these people tapped into some real things that can't be commodified easily, and as a result didn't make a lot of money in most cases.
