and that's saying something

The Mothership - 2012-02-09

Naw, this is fake.

*googledy googledy*

Oh my god, this actually happened. The episode is called The Post-Modern Prometheus

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-02-09

Yeah, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously; it's kind of an homage to the campy horror movies of the 50's. Still, it's no "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space.'"

And really, this wasn't the most awful episode of the series. Most of them are part of the main alien conspiracy arc where they kept trying to tie everything together and failed miserably.

By the way, hasn't this clip been in the hopper a bazillion times already?

Aelric - 2012-02-09

Yeah, actually this was one of the better episodes of entire run, if for not other reson than it was so different than the self-serious alien plot.

In fact, X-Files was actually a pretty awesome show for about half of it's run. It's just that it ended SOOOO badly and the alien plot never panned out, so a lot of folks memories are tainted.

Spit Spingola - 2012-02-09

This episode was fun! X-files was really pretty damn good around this time. I really didn't mind seesawing back and forth between the conspiracy plot and wacky-ville, of which this was probably the wackiest. Then the movie came out and the conspiracy plot started turning into wacky-ville.

blue vein steel - 2012-02-09

needs a Mask tag

Riskbreaker - 2012-02-09

Anything from the last season, and that "virtual reality gaming" episode, are for worse than this. Still, hot damn.

Toenails - 2012-02-09

Wow, I know it took FABIO a long time to get a working link, but goddamn he's right. This really is the single most ridiculous thing in the entire series.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2012-02-09

This thing got sniped down so many times THE MAN I can now finally die in peace now that I've got to finally see it.

pressed peanut sweepings - 2012-02-09

I somewhat vividly recall this episode. It's how I learned about Mask.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-02-09

Cher had a child with a deformed face once. He was a biker or something, and then he died.

FABIO - 2012-02-09

Sorry, I tried to submit this a ton of times but it kept getting blocked. Finally found this version but the uploader fucked it up. There are two more great visual punchlines that the video skips over.

But episode is GREAT. Definitely in the top 5 up there with the Darren Morgan episodes. It's an outright comedy, great writing with great directing that comes off like an early Tim Burton effort. Catch it on Netflix Instant.

The Post-Modern Prometheus (Season 5: Episode 5)

FABIO - 2012-02-09

Top 5

Post-Modern Prometheus
War of the Coprophages (Darren Morgan)
Humbug (Darren Morgan)
Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space' (Darren Morgan)
Small Potatoes (STARRING Darren Morgan!!!)

FABIO - 2012-02-09

There are a ton more clips I'd love to upload. Anyone know a decent way of getting around the copyright checker? All the internet suggestions are 3 years out of date and don't work anymore (image flip, pitch change).

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-02-09

What about that one that only got aired once? I think it was called "Home." About the family that had been inbreeding since the civil war or something?

Tripitaka - 2012-02-09

Yes! The inbred hillbillies that passed down a genetic mutation that made them impervious to pain. Their DNA was so damaged that they had basically devolved into Neanderthal-like creatures. And a limbless, inbred mama that they all had sex with and impregnated!

Easily the most horrifying and therefore greatest episode.

the_slurb - 2012-02-10

Home is another great one. God I love Xfiles

FABIO - 2012-02-10

Top creepy episodes?

Squeeze (season 1)
Home (season 4)
Elegy (season 4)
Ice/Firewalker (season 1 & 2, the exact same episode)
Detour (season 5)

Toenails - 2012-02-10

I only have one creepy episode: "Beyond the Sea". It had that serial killer Luther Lee Boggs who was a psychic and had to face the gas chamber.

RockBolt - 2012-02-09

This is one of my fav monster of the week episodes, which are basically the only ones I remember fondly anymore as it is

Tripitaka - 2012-02-09

As silly as this episode is, it is still disturbing that this guy raped and impregnated women against will with mutant animal DNA and they ended up being all hunky-dory about it. Y'know, 'cause he likes Cher, how bad a guy could he be?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-02-10

Frankenstein could have learned a thing or two from Cher.

BiggerJ - 2012-02-10

As far as I recall, the following is canon: this episode takes place in an alternate universe in which the world is a fictional reality depicted in a comic book. Mulder figures this out and uses this fourth-wall breaking knowledge to have a comic book writer write a happy ending.
