I'm guessing Prof Harry Palms here has had some personal experience with the subject.
I've always felt the same thinking could apply to television, especially cable tv. Instead of the lack of an erection, you just lose the ability to interact in a meaningful way with others, period. As the man points out, there are few people out there who don't watch a bazillion hours of this stuff a day to compare with. The results are seen all around us.

jangbones - 2012-04-07 People still interact with each other, but now instead of talking face to face with someone who lives near you, you talk with someone in a forum or in a comment section, and you know nothing about the person you are interacting with.
This new way of talking has certainly managed to strip away decorum and politeness from public discourse. Some may like that change but I think it gives people an excuse to hate more and think less.

1. He is a covert christian agenda sort of guy who got totally trolled by Reddit.
2. He is actually attempting to identify a psychological condition and got totally trolled by Reddit.
In any case, I think Reddit won this one.

His thesis starts with porn triggering the Coolidge effect. I don't agree because I don't think masturbation is physically taxing enough for it to matter. I do think there is a danger of chronic porn users fetishizing the experience. cf.

I used to like watching TED talks but the quality has become diluted - for every still halfway decent presentation you get like two or three dickheads going on and on in academic jargon and buzzwords about not much in particular, usually some sort of vague message about needing to solve some vague problems that trouble our modern society.

Having watched the other YBOP videos I can say that with this live presentation, whatever forgiveness one might have for the pseudosciency window-dressing (of what is largely a common sense message about moderation) gets cast aside because he's just so annoying live.

So, I did some research on this guy. Not surprisingly, he's neither a psychologist nor a neurologist, although he "spends many hours scanning the Web and integrating the latest discoveries". The only credential I see listed is a nursing degree, and his bio doesn't state where he got it, only that he teaches labs and "also" teaches a few courses on anatomy, etc. His co-author is his trial lawyer wife. Most of the links on their website go to other pages on the same site, making it difficult to find any of the external sources that he cites without going through three or four pages of propaganda.
