He's not crazy, he's just really really dumb. Sufficiently advanced stupidity can be indistinguishable from mental illness, and this is a man who gets into debates with household appliances. Remember "The Earth is gonna tilt on its axle and that'll make the oceans splash around"? This is just the next logical step in the "There must be a little demon inside" school of understanding electronics and machinery.
