Travel back in time to a bygone era, when the announcement of a new Square game meant excitement and anticipation, instead of disappointment and forehead-slapping.

Absolutely. After this, Final Fantasy Tactics, and FF VII I was really excited to see what was going to come next from the company.

And then things started to go downhill faster than I could have ever imagined.

All we have now are memories...and the various re-releases.

Just before CTs official release stateside, the commercials on TV that Squaresoft ran were literally just the Japanese commercials with subtitling. I about shit myself when I saw the commercial (I didn't know about the game having sort of abandoned gaming journalism at that time).

Yeah meant to reply to StanleyPain.

Omg really? I wish I saw those. Probably would have been too young to appreciate them, though.

Yeah, they were the usual hyper-fast gameplay montages with someone screaming at you.

I've played through it 3 or 4 times but just hearing the music makes me want to do it again.

And of course Toriyama isn't there. I think I read somewhere once that he likes to keep himself well hidden.

This game was just incredible at the time.

Can't believe that I finally got around to playing this game just last year for my DS. Hell, I had a SNES when I was a child and rented loads of games including the rare to find E.V.O. but never this game.

Chrono Trigger seemed to fill an empty niche in my RPG titles and now I crave even more.
