Starring Joaquin Phoenix's voice and Willem DaFoe's face.

Loosely based on Scientology. Tom Cruise and Travolta are busy trying to influence this movie.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-05-23

Yeah, but to what extent can they? I know PTA is buddy buddy with Tom Cruise after Magnolia, but from what I've read he's also usually pretty unwilling to compromise.

jangbones - 2012-05-23

I don't think Tom Cruise is genuinely buddy buddy to anyone.

I bet scientology tries to ignore this and play down the connection without facing it head on. They may not like it but trying to attack this film only puts a spotlight on the wackier accusations about L. Ron, which already have some supporting evidence.

misterbuns - 2012-05-23

Because Scientology has a track record of cunning public relations.

Innocent Bystander - 2012-05-23

Man, this is so about Scientology.

freedoom - 2012-05-23

I was hoping this was something to do with Dr Who.

"My name is Joaquin. I take care of the place while the Master is away."

Nikon - 2012-05-23

The Master wouldn't approve of such ... films.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-05-23

The tragic thing is that we have been misdirected to stare at the religion with waning political influence cause by internal power struggles, and the one religion that actually stands to destroy everything we hold valued in this nation has a candidate up for fucking president, and nobody's making a movie about the magical underpants that deflect bullets.

How many Tony awards did Book of Mormon win?

Black Napkins - 2012-05-23

Not to agree with the alarmist sentiment, but I hardly think 'the Book of Mormon' quite compares with whats going on here.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-05-24

A film version of "Under The Banner of Heaven" would kick ass, so long as Sean Penn stays away from it.

misterbuns - 2012-05-23

Well, The Book of Mormon openly and directly mocked the mormon faith in a pop culture way. This is an esoteric allusion to Scientology by a director who doesn't really have pop culture appeal. So to say that American entertainment and its audience is ignoring Mormonism, or giving it a carte blanche is pretty out of touch.

misterbuns - 2012-05-23

also: i think its safe to say Romney got the nomination in spite of the mormon factor: not because of it.

Riskbreaker - 2012-05-23

Exactly what angle is this going to take? That is the question.

Tripitaka - 2012-05-23

That's some pitch-perfect casting right there.

Ursa_minor - 2012-05-24

Goddamn he's a good actor.
