around this same time, my web 1.0 experience was mainly trying to get the mechwarrior online game that was advertised on Prodigy CDs to work
Bhiu - 2012-05-22
I played that once. All the kids were yelling at me for using an assault mech. I owned them.

At that time all i knew how to do on the internet was AOL chat and looking at some very crudely made porn sites that severely lacked in content.

I didn't even know it was possible to play games "on the internet" before everquest 1 killed my life in 1999. And Tribes 2 then shit on its corpse for a while.

The Townleybomb - 2012-05-22
When he was downloading the Anime review site, I thought the drama was going to kill me.
Dr Robot - 2012-05-22
I don't even remember cats existing back then.
Dr Robot - 2012-05-22
Oh, and Winamp was the shit.
craptacular - 2012-05-23
I can't be the only person still using winamp.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-05-23
I'm still using mIRC.

Old_Zircon - 2012-05-23
I use winamp every day.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-05-23
I still use Winamp exclusively for Mp3s. I don't have my Fallout themed skin (VaultAmp?) anymore though.

Hooker - 2012-05-23
Is WinAMP a badge of honor for Web 1.0 users? I still use it for listening to mp3s / web radio (where I can) to this day.

I tried going on IRC recently, and boy are the major networks dead compared to what I remember.

PegLegPete - 2012-05-23
Have Winamp on my desktop still. Surprised we didn't see ICQ or something too.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-05-23
Winamp was and still is the best.

Riskbreaker - 2012-05-23
I'm almost expecting a "king of the internet" ad with homer in it to appear at any moment.
Caminante Nocturno - 2012-05-23
Anime Web Turnpike?!? I'd forgotten that place even existed. It's too bad he didn't visit Emiko's Genesis or Sluggy Freelance. My flashback would have been complete if he had.

I'd also forgotten about the joy of patiently waiting for a site's images to load, and trying to guess which anime characters would show up based only on their slowly emerging hairstyles. I think it's going to be something from Bubblegum Crisis. No, Gunsmith Cats! Definitely Gunsmith... Oh, I have no idea who that is...

I love the IRC chat going on there. "should I get a Voodoo 2 card?". Those were the days.

I can't believe I actually had the bootleg Taiwanese CD of that song playing at the beginning. It was from the Tenchi Muyo Live in Tokyo released around the same time as the first movie came out. Can't fucking believe that I remember that.

This takes me back to when I used 14.4k modem on Windows 3.11 playing ZZT while listening to Mp2s because my 486/50mhz couldn't handle mp3s. Those were the days..
Caminante Nocturno - 2012-05-24
Oh God, Tenchi flashbacks.

Old_Zircon - 2012-05-25
I still have ZZT on floppy someplace. And the terrible games I made in it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-08-15
What I find comforting about this is how little IRC has changed. Think I'll go visit #linuxn00b right now.
candyheadrobot - 2013-08-15
