-This particular loan was backed, in large part, by stimulus funds. The stimulus which Curt railed against.
-They laid off the entire staff Friday. The staff got an email from Schilling and the board which consisted of three lines. Not even a good luck or goodbye.
-38 Studios helped lure people into Rhode Island by helping them sell their homes. Except they didn't and now some of the laid off staff are getting messages from the bank wondering why they haven't paid their second mortgage.
-Schilling claimed to have put 30mil into the project, when papers revealed he only put in the 4mil. There's evidence that the first thing he did was pay back the 4mil he put in.
-The state borrowed from the banks in order to do this. The banks made 7% on this and have already been paid in full.
All of the resulting lawsuits are going to entertain us for years...
Thank you. You saved me five minutes of having to listen to Cenk Uyger.

as a die hard Sox fan let me say: fuck you Curt, fuck you in the eye
Yeah. Same here.
I actually saw him a few weeks ago at PAX East. The man is a master bullshitter. Confidence up the yang.

Politics aside, I feel bad for two groups, the tax payer of the state for obvious reasons, and the employees that set roots thinking this was gonna be a steady job, bought houses, turned down other offers and all that. The lead talent at the studio will be fine since they will be headhunted by other companies and can just go back to were they were (for the most part) minus the cost of movies back the California where most game dev houses seem to be, but plenty of the requirement from colleges and other departments are really boned if they weren't saving their significantly smaller paychecks.

ugh I can't stand this show.
Schadenfreude over Curt Schilling's hubris makes it totally worth it.
No it isn't. The shittiness of The Young Turks trumps everything else.

This is why states shouldn't be allowed to raid other states for jobs, i.e. offering massive incentives to encourage business to relocate to or set up shop in their state.
Most other countries in the civilized world have laws forbidding such practices.
But, you know, America! Freedom! Blah, blah, blah...

This hits oddly close to home. I work for a AAA game company that shall go unnamed, and three guys I worked closely with all jumped ship last year to go join a former boss who went to work for 38 Studios.
One of them just got the layoff notice on his birthday. I'm assuming that at least two of them will probably be fine (and probably coming back here to work) so maybe there's some kind of "happy" ending to be salvaged out of it.
No, they laid off EVERYONE on Friday.
Yes, that's correct. But it also coincided with the birthday of one of them, you see.
Oh, I feel you. I misread that as saying that two people didn't get layoff notices.
DADDY WARCRIMES IS AN EA SPY! I SWEAR I'LL PAY FOR MY NEXT GAME!
Activ-- I mean, yes, please attribute every terrible thing I have said or done over the years to EA.

Putting aside the quality of Kingdoms of Amalur (and dumbshit debates over whether TYT is a worthy show), it blows my fucking mind that anyone, anywhere thought it would be a good idea to gamble part of state's economy on the success of a fucking VIDEO GAME.

Let us not also forget that Big Huge Games, makers of the Rise of Nations games, is now gone as well, having been absorbed by 38 Studios previously. But hey, free market invisible hand infallible bootstraps etc.

"This game is exactly like World of Warcraft. Except it's not World of Warcraft. We thought this would be a wise investment."
But now Curt will never be able to make his dream MMO! I've heard it was going to incorporate elements from World Of Warcraft!
