Well... you do have to consider the fact that it's a fashion doll. It's not like they're going to drastically change how they present a million dollar toy franchise. And it's a heck of a lot better than having Barbie say "Math is hard" and "Cooking is fun". These are actually funny and while they don't present Strong Female Characters(http://harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=311) they also don't have the girls fawning hopelessly over boys all the time. For Barbie from the 80's this is practically a feminist manifesto.
Reality TV and soap operas have been doing it for years, so I'm glad that kids' TV finally has its own entry in the "Rich White People With No Real Problems" genre.
It sucks when screenwriters make all the men doofuses in a lazy attempt to strengthen the 'girl power' message, but if it keeps brony types from getting into the show its not all bad.
