It's a great gimmick, but what makes it more than a gimmick is the obvious irritation with the younger self. That's SO true to life! If it were me, I'd want to reach inside the screen and slap the precocious little prick.
For me. it's the other way around, the time AFTER the arrival of the internet is a blur.

That guy I can't help but wonder how much or how little the 12 year old Jeremiah filled the tape with a bunch of multi-use lines so the future Jeremiah could edit it together with whatever future questions and answers he wanted.
Probably not much.
Syd Midnight Oh my God I wish I had thought of that when I was 12, instead I got several cassettes full of video game music and my little sister making up scatalogical stories about Barbie, so it's not a complete loss.
