There is good dubstep, but it doesn't sound anything like Skrillex. Skrillex is just bullshit.

Jericho - 2012-07-16 but is it good dubstep...is it really...
I dont know man all of these "x's react" are pretty amazingly dull. a bunch of olds/youngs/bads overact to whatever stupid thing and vomit up boring answers. also I'm pretty sure this is already on here. also skrillex is a vamp

godot - 2012-07-16 Dubstep was originally British music critspeak for the genre of urban post-jungle/post-UK garage downtempo (ambient w/ beats) for which artists like Burial and Shackleton are still lauded.
American "dubstep" is rooted in the UK subgenre of "filthstep", the dirty sawtooth bass of artists like Boregore or Trolley Snatcha. Entirely different production tools and goals.
I happened to like filthstep when I first heard it in early '09, and the American dubstep like Skrillex is still interesting (though this electronic music genre, like most of them save minimal house, is subject to diminishing returns). Its a pity its the frat-boy approved rap-metal of 2012, but that's not the genre envelope's fault.

Old_Zircon - 2012-07-16 What Godot said.
Except fr the part about Skrillex having any redeeming qualities.
Dubstep isn't techno.
|
Adham Nu'man - 2012-07-16 If it goes bleep bloop it's techno.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-07-16 Hey guiz I heard only "hipsters" listen to "dubstep" can we talk about what these words mean some more?

|
memedumpster - 2012-07-17 This is like that "songs with guitar solos aren't metal" thing that went around for twenty years.

"Some things are just universally terrible"
Like kids and olds mugging at the camera

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-07-16
'It might be good for younger people, but for old people, they might die.'
'I'd rather my kids listen to this than Justin Bieber' Amen.
The guy in the yellow shirt with sunglasses on his head who says "might sound good if you were really stoned" seems most in touch.

Good fucking god, I was happier before I knew such music existed.

Not rating a second-reference video.
Not a hipster either. I'm boring and I have a really tiring dayjob.
But I like -some- dubstep or whatever you want to call it. The stuff I like is being called "chillstep" and if you want an artist to look into for some examples look up "rameses b."
I find all this music in the EDM room in plug.dj which is an accessible route to finding new music of this sort.
Don't judge a genre unless you give it a fair shot.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-07-16 I'll be sure to listen to more Katy Perry before I diss autotune again.
|
dek863 - 2012-07-17 Yeah, because we know that the people at poe dont generalize all Republicans on the basis of crazy videos.
|
Simillion - 2012-07-17 Nothing wrong with generalizing. A lot of is crap. Often you're listening to a "dubstep" song and for the first minute you think, "Hey, this sounds cool." And then the beat "drops" and suddenly you're listening to the same shit you've heard a thousand times.
But some of it really is good and isn't just rehashed skrillex. I'm just saying if you don't bother looking, you're missing out on some good music. It's not the end of the world either. It's just music.

If we could only go back in time when the radio only had Edison reciting the alphabet.

Robin Kestrel - 2012-07-17
I do like that "Bangarang" song, but I don't think I could take an album of the stuff.
|
|
Robin Kestrel - 2012-07-18 Also, I was in college when Mr. Skrillex was born. I guess that makes me an elder.
