I'm happy this mission was already a go before the REALLY deep funding cuts on NASA. Part of me hopes this will restore passion for space exploration, but a bigger part of me knows it probably won't.

If someone ran for Pres on the 'Colonize Another Planet' ticket, they would have my vote.

Newt mentioned moon colony and tanked his career. Space exploration did what Nancy Pelosi could not. American conservatives hate all space/science/not death.

Though people are generally more excited about Curiosity than the previous eight other space missions, so that is a good sign.

Make no mistake, "colonize another planet" is a thing which will have absolutely nothing to do with you or your descendents. Our genes will be the Morlocks, the Romney genes will be the ones having space opera adventures.

Considering the "Mars Curse" of a 40% rate of successful missions there and the complexity of the descent, I feel like I'm in the future now. So stoked on every new media coming from this. Amazing.
