"getting" dark? dude, it's ALWAYS been dark...have you ever seen the one with vampire girls' Dad? Holeee shit I would NOT let my five-year old watch that EVER, even gave me the creeps
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-08-31
I actually only watched parts of the first season and just came back to it. Almost every episode now is just weird as heck. I'll have to look for that one.

freedoom - 2012-08-31
don't forget that 90% of the things peppermint butler says are evil and creepy.

it's in the hopper, but you have to click on Original Link for some reason

badideasinaction - 2012-08-31
Not to mention it all takes place in the post-apocalypse.

Also, the princess is kind of a dick.
Kabbage - 2012-08-31
This one might be my favorite from the season, so far. Enjoyed it immensely.

It's been a great season.
poorwill - 2012-08-31
Best season so far. Only a couple of so-so eps. I think my favourite is Goliad.

Xenocide - 2012-08-31
Goliad is easily one of the best television episodes produced this year.

Kabbage - 2012-08-31
Goliad was pretty incredible, yeah. It's a tough call.

God bless this show.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-09-01
I just saw Goliad and it seriously scared the crap out of me.

Kabbage - 2012-09-01
Okay maybe my favorite part of Goliad was just this one-off thing at the very start where PB hasn't slept for fucking weeks, and she's leading them into her tourture/experiment dungeon, and is like "I realize I won't live forever..." stopping dead and turning to stare at them wide-eyed, she whispers sharply "I WOULD IF I COULD"

And they just sort of stare and take it in, as she continues.

dead_cat - 2012-09-01
Goliad was disturbing as FUCK.

This episode led me to have a long, surprisingly intelligent discussion with my brother about transgender issues.

That is what this cartoon about a talking cookie did in my life.
Old People - 2012-08-31
Who is this aimed at? It's basically too stupid for grown-ups, too smart for children.
memedumpster - 2012-08-31
Oh man, you're going to be so sorry you asked. Yes, it is too stupid for grown-ups... which is why it's a good thing there aren't any. I've watched this cartoon, it's designed for kids to laugh at the bright colorful characters in kid situations (mostly physical humor), and their parents to fill in "missing plot" that was never there and tell themselves it's deep (via gen x dialog).

Welcome to Earth, the average adult age is 14, and it lasts 56 years.

poorwill - 2012-08-31
You're both subhuman degenerates.

Xenocide - 2012-09-01
Oh man, you two guys are so much smarter than everyone else in the world. You can tell because you don't like a cartoon!

dead_cat - 2012-08-31
I don't know that Cookie Princess is transgendered. The character never claims to be another gender -- but DOES seem to define "princess" as someone with the power to make Everything All Right and Everyone Happy, and has fixated on it ever since Bubblegum mocked their childhood ambition to become such a person.

Then again, maybe Cookie is transgendered. If he isn't, then the moral would be to be kind and understanding to people, even if they seem unconventional and have goals you find silly, because even strange people are deserving of kindness, and their goals, while silly to you, may be completely heartfelt and serious to them. --But does a cartoon as full of positive yet unconventional characters (with often bizarre goals) really need a cartoon devoted solely to that message? It seems rather redundant.
dead_cat - 2012-08-31
I put that badly. If Cookie Princess IS intended to be a transgendered character, the moral is the same, but the context is somewhat altered (being kept from following one's dreams vs. being kept from BEING ONESELF).

It would also make Cookie's obsession with being recognized as a Princess a little more understandable, TBH.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2012-09-01
Cookie wants to be transgendered and that allowed them to be mocked for it. Thus setting up a spiral of shame and self doubt, repression and fear, self loathing and eventually violently reacting out in public. It's a sad tale and a warning to us all.

Always allow cookies.

I had a much more boring take on it: Cookie was male, Bubblegum Princess was laughing because this adorable child didn't know that boys become princes and not princesses, and Cookie has been holding a grudge way out of line with what happened.

American Standard - 2012-09-01

How old is Princess Bubblegum?
dead_cat - 2012-09-01
18. But Candy Person age seems to be determined by the mass of one's accumulated sugar, so who knows how long she's been 18.
