I can't remember if I read it in an interview or if it's on the commentary for these DVDs, but David Cross said the inspiration for this sketch came from him reading something about how Meryl Streep claimed to have laid on a giant block of ice to "feel what it's like to be dead" to 'enhance' her acting ability in a scene where she would appear as a corpse in the film Ironweed.
