The God of Biscuits - 2012-09-06

This is a great show, but the last few seasons have been meh.

Bort - 2012-09-06

Huh, so Rimmer's dead again. Or possibly, the same Rimmer who went off to become Ace Rimmer and, I guess, may not have been up to the job.

memedumpster - 2012-09-06

I had no idea this show was still going.

GQ - 2012-09-06

Well, aside from a 3 part reunion special 3 1/2 years ago, this is the first series in 13 years

StanleyPain - 2012-09-06

It hasn't been for almost 12 years which is when Season 9 ended and basically ended the show (so everyone thought). There was an incredibly awful American pilot version of the show which was an embarrassment to mankind and then for years a Red Dwarf movie languished in the depths of development hell and was eventually scrapped and turned into Back To Earth, a very awkward mini-series that was met with very mixed reactions.

This looks to be basically getting back to the old-school Red Dwarf and probably won't even have much continuity with the old show (which is a good thing)

memedumpster - 2012-09-06

Oh god, the American version, I had forgotten the horror... welp, back to alcoholism.

LJ: I love seasons 1-8 for varying reasons. I remember watching the finale of season 8 in 1999 all excited, because it came off like there was going to be a steady progression of new seasons. It even alludes to season 9 being right around the corner.

...except they wanted to do a movie before season 9. Which turned into a cluster fuck of waiting for who knows what and licensing this or need the rights to that. It took 10 glorious years of fuck all before saying fuck it and doing a 3-parter. Really Britain? How do you get anything done working at this pace?

I dunno how to rate this. *flips table*...*storms out of the room*

sosage - 2012-09-06

*storms back into the room*

Fuck it. Here.

*storms out again*

Kabbage - 2012-09-06

God yes.

Red Dwarf: Back to Earth gave me mixed signals. There's no reason this needed to be a three parter, as the entire second part was literally just the four of them killing time in London, but the payoff was pretty great. There was a good two-part episode in there.

The fact that there was so much padding on the movie makes me worried for a full-length season. Then again, a return to half-hour contained episodes might be exactly what they need.

Kabbage - 2012-09-06

Also: I see Craig Charles has been steadily and gracelessly gaining weight. If he were playing any other character, this would probably be a bad thing.

A big part of me really wants him to go full fatass now.

boner - 2012-09-06

25 years in space is a good premise, they should all be going insane by now.

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2012-09-06

Should have Lister have an obsession with battle robots now just for kicks.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-09-06

The comedy version of "Game of Thrones": A show I don't care for but will have my nerd cred challenged if I say I don't like it.

maggotlimbo - 2012-09-06

Rating how the cast has held up:

Rimmer: Old, fat

Cat: Hasn't aged a fiddly fuck day.

Kryten: Giant foam head.

Lister: ... Cocain is a helluva drug.

Tried to watch "Back to Earth" twice, but it's just so painfully unfunny & I couldn't make it through the second part where they just hang around a Borders for an inordinant amount of time. They could've just ended it for me, when one half of the writing team quit. It seems he took a good chunk of the humor & original ideas with him.

CornOnTheCabre - 2012-09-07

i never, ever thought i'd say this about any show ever, but...

thank god they brought the laugh track back.

oddeye - 2014-03-10

Series 4 is where the decline started for me and I couldn't get into anything after series 5. Still, it was a good ride while it lasted.
