Yea but Paul was wrong...he had never even met Jesus and in a lot of cases he just made shit up. That's why he had to go preach in Asia Minor, the other Christians in Jerusalem kicked his ass out over doctrinal disagreements. There were female apostles that just got written out of the gospels (see Gnostics). What angers me is when people don't know dick all about their own religion.
Unlike the other gospels, which were written by Greeks.
Strange coincidence that Christianity started including claims of a netherworld and gods having sex with women giving birth to demigods, right when it was introduced to a culture which already believed those things.
The verses he's citing (1 Corinthians 14:33b-36) are generally thought to have NOT been written by Paul, and are one of the many cases where Paul contradicts himself. In actually, the verse is a product of pseudonymity, and one of many.
It's closer than you think. The phrase "Judeo-Christian" is a pretty good indication of how much religion we've ditched. A large part of their strength is their unity, and they can only unite because they don't really give a shit about the tenets of their faith. Most of them couldn't even tell you what their particular sect believes.
Yeah, a Mormon is the Republican presidential nominee and only a few years ago it was unlikely that a Catholic would be able to. That however may be a completely different issue to these people.
I always tell people that I think Paul was one of the worst things to happen to the church and they always say something like, "What? But he was so JUST and WISE and traveled SO FAR (look at this map!)." And, then they quote the "greatest of these is love" quote. It's the same song and dance every time.
