I almost moved to NYC in the spring of 2001. In the decade since then there have been so many things that make me glad I chose not to that I've lost track. Here's another.

Somehow most of New England was spared a second year in a row. It was kind of windy this afternoon and a branch fell and knocked a few feet of gutter off the corner of the roof, but by the time the storm was supposed to be actually hitting us there wasn't even a breeze.

I really hope things don't get any worse in NY and NJ, it sounds really bad right now.

Dinkin Flicka - 2012-10-30

It's not that bad in NYC. It's probably bad in very specific areas, but I just rode my bike from Crown Heights to Greenpoint and there's just fallen trees and signs and awnings. Could be MUCH worse.

I finally made it on POETV! That's my building silhouetted on the right, 11 blocks due north of the explosion. The area hospitals are without reserve power as NYU's backup generators have failed. They're being evacuated, but the streets are still flooded. Bad times.

Holy shit man...

memedumpster - 2012-10-30

Dude.

Squeamish - 2012-10-30

Stay safe, man.

However, keep a video camera handy.

garcet71283 - 2012-10-30

And through all this, you still post on poeTV.

Do we have like a Medal of Honor that we can give out?

James Woods - 2012-10-30

That was awesome!

Someday a real rain will come and wipe the streets clean for good.

Dinkin Flicka - 2012-10-30

...That is not the exact quote, you're missing key nouns.

Louddetective - 2012-10-30

Jesus christ!

Fun story: I moved into my new house a couple days ago. Nice little apartment, right on the beach. Bay windows in the bedroom overlooking Long Island Sound. Oak tree in the side yard, massive branches practically inside my kitchen and living room.

Now I'm huddled in the bathroom, sleeping on the floor and watching poeTV on my phone. Thanks Nature, you real fucking killjoy.

memedumpster - 2012-10-30

Don't die, EvilHomer, nature can smell fear!

fedex - 2012-10-30

too late!

EvilHomer - 2012-10-30

Phew. It's over. The sun's out, the birds are chirping. Time to go outside again.

EvilHomer - 2012-10-30

ARGGGH NO THE EYE I FORGOT ABOUT THE EYE. Damn you, Nature! All those years of recycling and this is how you repay me!!!

garcet71283 - 2012-10-30

Don't look at it in the eye, it will think you are challenging it!

they'reforyou - 2012-10-30

This reminds me so much of the night-time battle scene in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) in which Fake Godzilla and real Godzilla duke it out while explosions like this happen in the background, and then after Fake Godzilla's skin is damaged, it reveals itself to be Mecahgodzilla.

I'm outside of Philadelphia and 3-4 transformers blew up at various points last night. My girlfriend had never seen it before and legit through the first one was a UFO.

Also holy shit.

fatatty - 2012-10-30

For some reason the transformer station down the block had two huge arc explosions Sunday night, but the storm didn't even reach Pittsburgh till today. And when it got here it was lighter than when it was hovering over Philly.

Such a strange storm, but I'm glad we're the lucky ones.

TheQuakeSoldier - 2012-10-31

This is why you shut down the power BEFORE your substations blow up. Ah well, if the breakers were in such bad shape, better that they fail during a storm than in a worker's face.
