I deal with customers calling and complaining about their touch screen devices every fucking day.

First question I ask: "Are you touching it with your fingertip or with the side of the finger?"

And they seem to hesitate until I explain to them that touch panels can be either resistive or capacitive and the side of your finger will project outward into the fourth dimension to produce "ghost" resistivity in other areas of the touch panel.

This is known as the Kirlean Aura effect and is one of the main reasons why the industry shifted to capacitive touch panels. Capacitive touch panels can support multi-touch so when you are using the sides of two fingers it really looks like four fingers, but because when you are doing that you are closing or opening your fingers to zoom it doesn't matter.

I get paid a lot of money to do this.

I want to get paid a lot of money, too! Do I need to explain about the Kirlean thingy to every customer, or can I just stick to asking them about how they're using their fingers?

I don't want to be a dick but... your post seems 100% wrong. Okay, I don't know how much you make, but the rest is wrong.

The switch from resistive to capacitive is because of:

1) No stylus to lose
2) multitouch
3) more accurate
4) does not wear out from use
5) can simulate pressure
6) less prone to error
7) and finally no user calibration required

yeah, after watching it again I retract my side of finger comment above and just think the thing needs to be calibrated. Old touchscreens will do these shenanigans.

The dude claims it wasn't a calibration issue, but he should have recorded it.

He claimed that it was only the Obama box that had this problem; every other one worked fine.

But you would think if it's just a calibration thing or glitch, it would be affecting all choices equally.
