Partial dupe. I thought Deep Purple was involved in this too?

Fun Fact: That's Ian Gillan singing like a confused Japanese man.

This is slightly better than his performance on Sabbath's Born Again LP.

Shit, I had completely forgotten about Blue Dragon. It's one of those sad little stillborn franchises we get every few years. It had a lot of big names behind it, and reunited a bunch of the guys who worked on Chrono Trigger and the more tolerable Final Fantasies. There was a tie-in cartoon series produced and a sequel planned before the game even shipped. This thing was supposed to be huge.

Then when the game finally launched, critics and consumers just kind of shrugged and went about their day. So much for that.

I'm pretty sure I've never heard a good boss battle music in an RPG that has any sort of complex vocals. This... does not change my opinion very much.

Everything with art from the Dragon Ball guy (Akira Toriyama?) is guaranteed to be shit. Chrono Trigger escaped that fate thanks to the technology not catching up to the illustrations, just like FF6 was better off not following all that god awful character artwork.

I could see this as a sales pitch for an energy drink company in the early 2000's.

I think you mis-typed, this was the Barkley: Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden boss music

This is a formulaic song with bad lyrics, so I'm guessing Van Halen?

I encountered this on youtube years ago and just assumed the guy who posted it was trolling and that it wasn't actually part of the game's soundtrack.

I used to ironically pretend to get psyched when this played, fist pumping and shouting FUCK YEAH and headbanging... but after a handful of battles that fake emotion started to become real, I had trained an adrenaline response to the song - and I see it still works because FUCKING YEAH MAN BRING IT!

It is terrible, but it goes perfectly with the Dragonball Z feel of the game.

Good soundtrack, awful, awful song that somehow clashes with the rest of the music.

First time I listened to this, I thought someone switched a track from some generic B-level engrish anime onto this album.
