They got some completely obscure American straight edge dude to do the vocals for this. You can hear him grunting "STRAIGHT EDGE" in the unintelligible part at the end!

That's what the X is for.

That's an interesting detail and I didn't realize until now just how absolutely blast your brains full of meth or something like it happy most RPG's actually are. Now that I think back, most RPG's have gross drug abuse in the guise of pushing the spreadsheet a few numbers up in a battle.

This song is called "Otherworld", and it also plays during the opening FMV when a huge city is getting destroyed, and sixteen year old me thought it was awesome.

I replayed the game a few months ago, and this song is definitely one of the worst things about it.

Udderdude - 2012-11-16

Not surprisingly, the Final Fantasy X Piano album did not include this track.

There's also the remix version with female Jenglish singing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkdLBwOVTtA

note: The Black Mages are a band made up of composers from Squaresoft's staff... Nobuo Uematsu, sole composer of all Final Fantasy soundtracks up to 10 (which he split duties with two others) plays keyboard

An awful song.

But I remember back when I played FFX for the first time, and the song just blew me away. It was a real shock to hear metal, even shitty shitty metal, in a Final Fantasy game, especially over an image of Kaiju monster genocide.

FABIO - 2012-11-16

It was also the reaction most people had to One Winged Angel in FF7. "A CHOIR in Final Fantasy game?!! Oh shit there goes the whole solar system!"

That song has aged even worse than this.

EvilHomer - 2012-11-16

Anyone who can't appreciate this song has clearly never experienced it in context.

It might be our generation's Disco Duck, but it's still real to me, dammit.

Well, in defense of the first six FF games, FFVII was the first that was distributed in a media format that could actually house music files that were more than cleverly arranged bleeps and bloops.

And when you realize that, and listen to the FFVI soundtrack, holy shit Nobuo, you really are a wizard.

Udderdude - 2012-11-16

SNES was sample based, so it wasn't as magic as you'd think.

viote - 2012-11-16

It seems that every couple of months I end up searching for and listening to this song. It occupies a very special place in my heart.

god bless final fantasy

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-11-17

I hate everything related to this series. 6 and 7 are the only ones worth mentioning, and even then, who cares?
