Sure, the Amish as a fundamentalist community with strict social controls that oppress their captured children, have brutal physical and psychological methods of control that their "quaint" PR campaign covers up. As in, the Amish really do hire sophisticated PR firms using online resources funded by their tourist and international trade money.
But really, the idea that brutal enforcers of Luddite principles would pose in slo-mo for crimes in front of cameras? The simpler answer is that it's heavily scripted. The other answer is even more depressing than some of the rest of reality TV.
I have a certain respect for the Amish, despite all the draconian backwardness of their lives. And, this is definitely exploitation of the highest degree. I'll still watch the clips when they make it here though.
