I picked pecans with my grandpa every season when I was a kid, I dont see the issue here.
These people have MANY more reasons to be concerned for these kids than just a little pecan pickin'.
Were you forced to skip school to do it while fleeing from contact from outsiders? If these crazies get in trouble for violating child labor laws, it's a good step toward getting the kids out of that situation.
I have to say I agree. I think the difference though is the scale of the operation. Helping your grandpa pick pecans is one thing, but if there are hundreds of kids like you in a line doing the same thing (esp. in lieu of school), that's vastly different.
Can the LDS not find frumpier dresses for their womenfolk? With the money they save on unpaid child labor, I'm sure they could afford little Victorian diving suits for all those kids and their mothers.
