Also, the training in this video looks like ridiculous paramilitary horseplay, more akin to Michigan militias masturbating around in the woods than actual soldiers preparing for combat. I don't doubt the individual toughness of the soldiers, but if this is a display of their infantry tactics, then their infantry tactics are garbage.

This footage is actually from a recruiting demo for a Russian youth military camp. These camps have gotten extremely popular over the last several years and generally have kids from the ages of 9-17. This video shows mostly the older kids (17-ish years old), as they can do most of the showy stuff. Most of the REALLY flamboyant acrobatic stuff in the video is being performed the instructors. They do have a younger kid rocking the bo staff at 1:54.

Some are funded by the Russian Orthodox Church and their purpose is to teach youths dicipline, and groom them to be elite Russian soldiers, if they do well, and upon turning 18 (reaching the age of mandatory conscription), they are chosen to join the Spetsnaz.
