Immortality by 2010? Hundreds of thousands of people living across the solar system by 2030? Wow.

This guy died in 2000. What a lucky son of a bitch.

He said if you're alive in 2010, you have a good shot at making it until 2030. By 2030, he predicted immortality. So, he's got nothing wrong. Yet.

He's been wrong a lot and right a lot. I find transhumanism to be a really interesting cultural event in any case. At its best, it is the only intellectual movement that is dealing with the human relationship with new technologies in an informed and challenging way, and at its worst, it is comedically entertaining New Age lunacy.

As poetv, we have dropped the ball in not rounding up the latter.

I'd like to think we've got the lunacy here in the form of the morgellons whackos, the gangstalker bunch (implants, mind-beams, whatever), etc.

"We went up to the three snorting machines to caress their breasts. I lay along mine like a corpse on its bier, but I suddenly revived again beneath the steering wheel a guillotine knife which threatened my stomach. A great sweep of madness brought us sharply back to ourselves and drove us through the streets, steep and deep, like dried up torrents. Here and there unhappy lamps in the windows taught us to despise our mathematical eyes. "Smell," I exclaimed, "smell is good enough for wild beasts!"

He lost me at the "Aliens have not visited our planet in comically inept ways" part. What does he know.
