Has anyone seen the movie? I've been avoiding it because I'm worried it will let me down and break my heart.
I have the same misgivings about "Pacific Rim".
Stars for using practical effects instead of CGI.
This film is not directed by Del Toro.
It's pretty good for the first 2/3 of the movie, until they show the "monster" which is less of this, and more shitty CGI.
misterbuns: The film is produced by Del Torro. Tag is relevant.
Binro: The film is okay. It's mostly a by the numbers rip off of any given Americanized j-horror derivative, but with much better cinematography and acting. The ghost fluctuates from being laughably embarrassing to kind of creepy at random intervals. This film suffers the same problem the remake of The Wolf Man suffered. "Hey, here's a neat way to practically convey a monster, now let's gloss over it with sub par cgi!!!"
It's better than, say, The Ring 2, or the Grudge 2, or Pulse.
Forget The Wolf Man, they had practically effects and models ALL BUILT AND READY TO GO for The Thing prequel, but decided to scrap it all for CGI.
I don't think anything is ever going to be I Am Legend though.
