I know that sharks and other large fish will sit patiently while smaller fish and sometimes seabirds pick parasites off them, but it does seem like quite a leap in logic that the whale shark realized it had something from a boat stuck to it, so it went and sat next to another boat and waited for humans to clean it off.

Have we been underestimating the intelligence of these things?
