I used to be in AA, and there's a vast difference. AA is not a religion. I've seen athiests with 12 years sobriety stand up and say "I pray to no God!", and nobody needs to argue. AA is not about religion. AA is about boots on the ground. I stopped going back to AA when I started taking an antidepressant, and the urge to drink left me utterly.

These are tough people dealing with the stuff that happens. Mary Carey needed money to take care of her suicidal mother, did one movie, got back out of the business and is happily married. Mary Carey is a taking-care-of-business motherfucker.
