Well I think he would get to keep the money on whatever was left if he missed. It looks like each die has 500, 1000, and 1500 on it. So if he keeps what he has, he gets 4000. If he rerolls, his expected return is actually 1500 plus 1/8 of a car, which means the car needs to be worth ,000 to make the roll "worth it".

Still, you have to consider that there's a high degree of risk. This guy essentially paid 00 of his own money for a 1/8 chance of winning a car. Yeah, he won, but no financial adviser would recommend that.

I think it's an error to assume those dice are not fishy.
