I've never seen this instrument before. It's an analog Techno Soundtrack From Late 90's Sci Fi simulator and I want one.

StanleyPain - 2013-03-10 The priciest hang drums are usually in the 0 range, with decent quality ones being available for around or under 0....that's about the same as a lot of other musical instruments, so I wouldn't say it's "very very" expensive. It's an investment like a guitar or synth or something....
catpenis27 - 2013-03-10 They're not very very expensive, but considering what it is, and it's not a very complex thing compared to say a guitar, violin, whatever, and what you can actually do with it as far as music, then yes, it certainly costs more than it's worth.
memedumpster - 2013-03-10 I just tried to look on eBay, but these things couldn't possibly have a more annoyingly vague name. Apparently (according to wiki-maybe-pedia and others), these instruments were just invented recently and there's only one manufacturer (two guys in Switzerland) with no website. They're said to be 00.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-03-10 Yes StanleyPain and catpenis where are you getting one for 100 - 400 ? Can you send me a link?.. It it definitely the same thing?
catpenis27 - 2013-03-11 "gongs-unlimited" says , I doubt the link works but just google Halo Drum or Hang Drum http://www.gongs-unlimited.com/hangdrumbag.html?gclid=COXC86P187UC Fe4-MgoduVUAsg
catpenis27 - 2013-03-11 Oh jesus christ that's for the bag only. But still, google halo drum or hang drum, etc, I haven't seen them much over 0
Old_Zircon - 2013-03-11 I don't know, I've built a few guitars and I wouldn't even know where to start with something like this. There's a lot more to making a good metallophone of any kind than just getting it in tune. 0 is completely fair for something like this if it's hand made and high quality. I actually thought they cost a lot more.
Doesn't change the fact that they're kind of a fedora for wealthy new age types.
Old_Zircon - 2013-03-11 Also, they're a lot cheaper than a violin of comparable quality, which would start around ,000. Trust me on this, I used to work at a violin factory.
catpenis27 - 2013-03-11 My background is mostly in machining, and it appears like it might have been hard to get all the dimensions right, but basically, take a metal disc, spin it to look like a wok, then put it in a press with a die shaped like that thing, and voila.... The hard part is making the mold/die for it. But once that's done, it's just a matter of feeding the press more metal. But yeah, for example, I play accordion, and it's hard to find a really well made new accordion for less than like 00. Violins are rad too.

These are neat instruments that only rich white dudes can afford.

This is what you're told to aspire to in America. Standing in a body of water with a fucking upside down steel drum next to a golf course and defining yourself as a rich white male with so much money you don't know what to do. Also, "What the hell did we prove?" at the end

catpenis27 - 2013-03-11 Totes. I had to google that, but I love it.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-03-10
So what the hell is happening in the background of the video starting around the :27 mark?

This is what I'm afraid would happen if the CEO took us on a corporate retreat
