This IS the best cartoon on TV right now.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-04-01

I love the many 80s and 70s styles of everything that make their way into this show. Mabel's empowerment strategies and meaningless yuppiebabble sent this into the stratosphere.

Also, Wendy's friends are really dumb.

Still amazed Disney has anything to do with it.

BEST cartoon? not sure, it's very good but Archer, Venture Brothers, Adventure Time.. eh, there's enough love for all of them.

Like choosing a favorite child. You're allowed to have one but you don't tell anyone!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-04-01

My personal favorite is Young Justice and that got cancelled. Fuck you, Cartoon Network.

Archer second, this is third. This is a golden age of animation.

Bort - 2013-04-01

Missing "Young Justice" as well. For a comic book company that keeps rebooting its universe, DC seems to have no idea how to do it right ... unless it comes to cartoons, where they get it right most of the time, presumably by accident.

(Simple formula: put all the characters in a good place to start telling stories from. Don't worry tremendously about their backstories or whether Superman has ever met Conduit; the less you nail down, the less you have to retcon away later. And resist the temptation to break your characters just to wring some pathos out of them.)

hey guys what about family guy

That's fine and all, Bort...NERD! Gimme your lunch money now, nerd! I don't give a crap if it's all in penny rolls, either.

Xenocide - 2013-04-01

I'd put Venture Brothers in first, then this, then Adventure Time. Archer, Bob's Burgers, and Horse Fiasco would round out my top five list.

TV cartoons really are better now than they've been in a long time. The collapse of syndicated cartoons and network saturday morning blocks actually turned out to be a good thing.

Bort - 2013-04-01

I'm not sure how to draw the line from "collapse of syndicated cartoons and network saturday morning blocks" to quality cartoons. I'm guessing it's because people who actually love cartoons are now in charge of them, coupled with cheaper computer animation methods. And we probably have B:TAS to thank for half of that: if B:TAS hadn't made such an impression on people 20 years ago, they might not have grown up expecting more from cartoons.

You damn kids and your solid story structure, emphasis on characterization, and innovative use of the medium!

Cena_mark - 2013-04-01

Its one of the few cartoons that is better than MLP FIM!

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2013-04-01

I'm not sure Gravity Falls would exist if Disney wasn't actively fishing for former Cartoon Network talents. Disney wouldn't have even touched Gravity Falls and Motorcity a decade ago, when the main focus was a) "tween" girls, and b) using shitty sitcoms as a vehicle for manufacturing new "teen stars."

Without the ratings, I get the feeling Disney would write Gravity Falls off, like it did Motorcity. I didn't think Motorcity was great, certainly not as good as Gravity Falls, but Motorcity looked like a lot of effort was put into the background design and animation. GF and Motorcity are shows I wish CN was doing, but CN seems to be happy with Gumball and Johnny Test, so whatever.

TRON: Uprising was incredible in my opinion...I could tell its existence would be brief, but glad it existed as long as it did.

Don't forget the influence anime has had on American animation.
