The Mothership - 2013-04-08

douze points.

This is sublime until 1974, after which point everything is terrible and sung in English. Guess who won in 1974.

Also: is it me, or is it the most astonishingly revealing thing in the whole world that Israel competes in this? The Crusader Kingdom indeed.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-08

1974... was it Nin Huguen and the Huguenotes?

And I'd argue that the winners were always terrible, except for 2006, when Lordi won.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-08

And 1965 Luxembourg. Mrrrow! Would!

Koda Maja - 2013-04-09

Wait, why the hell was France Gall representing Luxembourg?

sasazuka - 2013-04-09

What are you talking about? 1974's awesome! If making catchy songs people worldwide actually remember decades later is a crime, ABBA's the only Eurovision winner that would serve any time. (I frequently rock out to SINGSTAR ABBA for the PS2.)

Billy the Poet - 2013-04-08

The popularity of Eurovision continually mystifies me.

sasazuka - 2013-04-09

How the hell did French-Canadian Celine Dion get to represent Switzerland in 1988?

sasazuka - 2013-04-09

Also, how the hell did Katrina and the Waves get to represent England in 1997, 13 years after their international hit "Walking on Sunshine"? I thought Eurovision was only for "up and coming" acts.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-09

That's what I thought, too, but Cascada is representing Germany this year so who the hell knows.

Of all the ones I've seen for this year, Greece for whatever reason I think has a pretty good, possibly best one. The Hungarian ones I watch too, because they're always really strange. The Romanian ones are like if the Hungarians were on PCP.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-10

Yeah, Greece is pretty awesome this year. Balkan folk-ska-punk bands are always really fun, even if they never make it past the semi-finals.

As a closet raver, I'm actually looking forward to a lot of the dubstep and house/techno acts this year (my guess is that Ireland will win; not because theirs is the best song mind you, but because, if you watch their official music video, it's clear that the dude is a globalist-Illuminati plant) One of my all time favorite loser acts, Bulgaria's Elitsa & Stoyan, are coming back too, so that's cool. The song they're doing isn't as good as the one from 07, but it's nice to see them back again regardless.
