I'm torn as to who gets my stars, here. I was never really aware of Ms. Minaj until someone sent me a video for her song, "Starships."
She gets PAID for these lyrics? Seriously? They read like a spam e-mail if they sold "clubbing" like herbal viagra. In a soup of meaningless hip-hop drivel, her's is especially void of anything beyond filling in a blank.

spikestoyiu - 2013-05-06 I hate to defend that (awful) song, but it's club and radio-ready pop music, and club and radio-ready pop music doesn't need to have anything other than stupid lyrics and they don't need to be written by the person who sings them. It just needs to be an earworm, totally disposable and totally stupid. Not that this is news to anyone.
Full disclosure: I enjoyed what I heard of Nicki Minaj early on in her career. She did a verse in Beyonce's "Single Ladies" (sample line: "Now I'm that bitch, now I'm the bad witch, I need a lot of cheese up on my sandwich") that was so stupid that I found it hard not to enjoy.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-06 Right, I never expect deep meanings from pop music. I'm saying that even for pop music, her stuff really comes off as randomized word salad.
spikestoyiu - 2013-05-06 That's a thing now. I think it's being called "hashtag rap". Don't shoot the messenger.
Old_Zircon - 2013-05-06 Randomized word salad is more compelling than 99.9% of pop lyrics, it's kind of what makes her stuff acceptable.
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-06 I hope someday "hashtag rap" sounds as ridiculous as "AOL keyword rap."
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-06 Also, the funny thing is that the more rap and hip-hop "evolve," the better and more intellectual stuff by NWA starts to sound. They're becoming the Pink Floyd of their genre.
Old_Zircon - 2013-05-07 You mean early innovators mostly known for their horrible, watered down later work?
spikestoyiu - 2013-05-07 I, for one, always appreciated NWA for their greatness.

Wait, I thought the Illuminati was like, fifteen rich Jews in a bunker somewhere. Now it's Satan? When did this happen?
