Yep it's the teacher's fault they have to do math drills in order to pass a state mandated test or the school loses funding.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-05-09 We don't know what class this was. Even if it was math, he has a point. If she's not going over the material with them, that is negligible.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09 It's not the teacher's fault they have to do it, but it's the teacher's fault that she doesn't care.
This kid is OK by me.

Look, kid, I'm not paid enough to give two shits. You'll get it when you're older.

That poor teacher doesn't need a lecture from some scruffy dweeb in bright red shoes.
What she needs is a date for Hearts & Hooves Day. So shut up and get to finding one, kid, one to really make her heart soar

Duncanville is about a half hour from Grapevine, where I live. If it's anything like the ISDs around it, the only thing anyone (minus this student) gives a fuck about is football.

I remember my high school lit teacher booting anyone from the class anytime they said something slightly disagreeable. We'd read some essay and then have a discussion which always meant someone getting thrown out.
I thought it was strange at the time but looking back it seems really strange. She would get this very hurt look on her face and in a quiet and dramatic voice tell the person to please leave her class.

I wouldn't blame the teacher for sounding like they were beaten down over their career. For one, whores make more money, and secondly, this is a state that allows creationism to be taught in science class.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-09 Counterpoint: my roommate at my apartment before last was a middle school teacher who refused to teach the prefab curriculum, advocated relentlessly, developed his own curriculum and after a few years he had affected major changes in the standard curriculum simply by setting an example and producing results. Of course, that was in heathen commie Boston so it's hardly the same thing.

This kid has an entire adult life ahead of him to spend in various mediocre social systems that do not give a shit. The silver lining is that, once you're an adult and out of K-12, you get to pick and choose which ones are worth wasting your time.
|
kingarthur - 2013-05-10 Picking and choosing based on what you can afford to pick and choose that is.
