So this guy didn't serve in the military and assumes that soldiers returning to civilian life would want the same exact gear they had in, say, Afghanistan or Iraq?

The fuck? Why? For what possible reason would someone want that unless they were feeling some pretty hard PTSD-induced paranoia?

zerdzer - 2013-05-15

what if it was just a hobby?

have you noticed how few crimes are committed with fully automatic weapons? the number of crimes committed with LEGALLY owned fully automatic weapons is next to nothing, because people who bother to go through all the paperwork to get one would probably rather stay out of jail so they can continue having fun with their toys

here's a source if you need one http://bjs.gov/con tent/pub/pdf/GUIC.PDF

Shoebox Joe - 2013-05-15

I don't think I've met a single veteran who has kept guns as a hobby. I've met veterans who became teachers and a drafted vet who became an alcoholic.

Honestly, you really expect some one to come out of the army, knowing all to well that their gun could be pointed at another human being, who wouldn't associate it with death, who wouldn't show signs of being a sociopath?

The most I've heard gun wise or seen gunwise are hunting rifles. The "well maybe they want the gear they had" is just some excuse from a cluelessly zealous shit bag who only wishes he could get into the army for what ever reason or won't even sign up but talks up a storm because they're a giant fucking coward and want to come off as manly.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-05-15

Also, you're going to have to fix that link Zerdzer. It's not working.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-05-15

Damn that second paragraph looks like shit.

But yeah, you really don't expect some one coming out of the military and still keep guns as a hobby not to show signs of being a sociopath? Or PTSD?

Shoebox Joe - 2013-05-15

Nevermind, forgot the space that poetv adds to every pasted link.

Yeah, that document really didn't do anything.

And I'm done with that "hobby" bullshit. Hunting is a hobby. Gun collecting is just borderline hero fantasy bullshit.

zerdzer - 2013-05-15

hero fantasy bullshit? no, not even close :|

people actually enjoy just shooting fully automatic weapons. or even just semi-automatic weapons at a range. having a bunch of different guns with different calibers and features is just variety for more fun. would you call a sword or knife collection "hero fantasy bullshit"?

civilians don't need fully automatic weapons, but it's not like civilians who go through the trouble of getting one will actually hurt anybody.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-05-15

I don't think I would call a sword or knife collection "hero fantasy bullshit" since they're not the most recent advances in weaponry.

Maybe a giant dork, nerd and/or theatre fag, who has yet to resolve their anger issues, but I'll leave the "hero fantasy bullshit" to the ones who go berserk and pull out the nearest weapon they own.

Redford - 2013-05-15

His youtube name is "Bigshooterist".

I think you guys are overthinking this.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-15

Redford is correct.

I'd shoot the fuck out of a legally owned machine gun if I had one, but Bigshooterist would still be just as much of a douchebag.

glasseye - 2013-05-15

There are plenty of people who own guns, do not hunt, and are not into the stupid "hero fantasy bullshit". Guess what, shooting at paper targets at a range is fun. Collecting historical or sporting firearms is fun.

Nominal - 2013-05-15

I'm going with Shoebox here. To this day I still remember talking to a guy who had been a ranger in Vietnam. It was tough getting him to say anything at all, but he did tell me two things that always stuck with me: "Some fucked up shit happened there" and "The guys who openly talk and brag about it were the adrenaline psychopaths who enjoyed it".

Gmork - 2013-05-15

Bigshooterist is a douchebag how? He is informative and inoffensive.

Suedeo - 2013-05-15

Informative!
